As you learned, there are some card issuers who will not approve charges for adult-oriented sites. The reason is typically not discomfort with the material, it is a dispute/chargeback-avoidance measure. It goes like this: 1) Cardholder makes the purchase at an adult website. 2) Cardholder's significant other/partner/spouse/whomever who is a joint cardholder notices and questions the charge. 3) Cardholder claims the charge to be fraudulent. The same reason holds true for the merchant service providers who handle the charges for the sites. They don't want the burden of processing chargebacks and eventually drop the merchant. An article that I now can't locate speculates OF is abandoning adult content because large institutional investors don't invest in porn. It seems that despite a decent revenue stream they don't generate sufficient cash to fund operations and need outside investment. My guess is seeking outside investment will be a moot point after this.
