I’m discovering why the ignore feature was created. 

The issue is the word "choice".  Think of the millions of people who have been harmed, discriminated against and even killed because others said sexual orientation is a choice.  Choice means you had an alternative and that simply isn't the case for most gay men-at least none that I know.  When I see a naked woman, I don't get hard.  It's not a choice.  There is simply no attraction.  For some others such as bisexuals, maybe they are attracted to both.  Who knows?  Who cares?  The bottom line is, this talk of "choice" has caused irreparable harm to so many.  Think conversion therapy as an example.  The discussion about nature vs. nurture is a different matter.

Evidently nobody is much interested in sharing their general views on "choosing their sexual orientation" because you say that's no longer the topic.

My take is that the OP subconsciously fears, and can't come to the realization, that he's wrong.
What other motive is there for posing the question?

Not flaming you but why would you think it’s about massage posts?  It’s about the providers and everything related to them. Everything.

You didn't go for the low blow.  You didn't act like a petulant child.  I'm fine with all of that (and sorry he stood you up, twice).  Like I tend to tell people, it's not what you say, but how you say it.  You kept it classy sir.
