  1. Actually, would love to get a Fazzioli :)

I'm happy with my apartment sized upright too. I play occasionally but not with as much frequency as when I was younger and was very serious about it (went to Royal Conservatory). Used to take improvising and jazz lessons with a teacher at julliard when i moved to NYC in the mid 1990s. A cute escort I know, works at one of the famous showrooms in manhattan and is an excellent pianist. Fortunately, i went to medicine and did not pursue music full time.

  2. If one just looked at the prices for used Steinway pianos, they would easily see that buying a new Steinway is a lousy investment. They depreciate about the way an automobile does. The only good reason to buy a new Steinway is to own one of the worlds finest pianos.

Actually, would love to get a Fazzioli :)

  3. My parents have a bosendorfer grand and a heintzmann upright. Growing up, we were an extremely musical family. We used to play Bach double piano concertos and Mozart sonatas for two pianos. My siblings, their spouses, and I are all proficient players. My sister-in-law is a concert pianist. The house is always full of music during the holidays. I think my mom considered the pianos as an investment in her children than the actual monetary investment.

  4. Ah. Gotcha.

That he was a NEXUS user with access to GE, but not GE first might have had something to do with it. He was approved on the Canadian side for NEXUS. Something tells me that US CBP would use that as an excuse to slow someone down if they wanted to.

I believe NEXUS requires approval by both Canadian and American authorities... so not sure why he was selected. Perhaps it was pick on NEXUS card holder day.

  5. Interesting. Did they find what they were looking for? :)

In hindsight, perhaps a never say never ideology should be taken when it comes to CBP.

No... my friend is squeaky clean. He doesn’t even know how to use the Uber app. He told me other people (black and brown) were in the inspection rooms for a long time and saw several people being asked detailed questions regarding their mobile phones. Sometimes it can be a power trip designed to make one nervous...when my friend’s turn came up, they asked 2 questions about his visa status (he’s Canadian too) and he was on his way...but it took an eternity almost an hour just waiting for his turn. Plus, he has Nexus which is similar to GE and uses the same kiosks.

  6. I assume you are flying, and from USA?

I am Canadian and it is paperless when I return and I don't need the electronic declaration card because I only need to report any goods brought back. It is all very quick. Kiosks are plentiful.

Go to the Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport website ... www.admtl.com, to Guide tab, to Landing in Montreal tab, to one of the many origin tabs (eg, from USA with American passport). It is all laid out.

I assume if you cannot use the smartphone/app method there must be a way to do it with forms and/or more elaborate info provision on the kiosk screen on arrival.

Possible delay issues might be if the kiosk camera "thinks" the photo it takes does not match your passport photo (likely rare), or pulled aside for fast and efficient luggage inspection at final exit stage.

There are helpful roaming attendants in the kiosk zone.

IF COMING FROM SOMEWHERE MORE OBSCURE, heed that you may need to satisfy fingerprint biometrics, and that sometimes needs to be set up in your country of origin.

    ------

Optionally, you can relay to the border patrol officer (if hunky) that a Montreal strip club subsection of a gay travel forum was very helpful in describing the process.

Most of the customs inspectors are quite hunky :)

  7. Yea but they declined my application and the local vetters made entires that should have corrected the DB and I still was rejected. No explanation.

Another friend with GE got a verbal warning for failing to declare 2 bags of potato chips... for this reason, i don’t bother bringing anything back to eat. Although, other friends just declare food items them under the “souvenir” allowance.

  8. Yes, but it's that vetting that never gets you a secondary inspection or further trouble.

GE will always be better for the frequent flyer because it's more comprehensive.

My friend has a GE as well and he got secondary screening. So, not sure completely if that is accurate.

  9. Thanks all! I think I’m going to try it out. Even if it’s $15 a year, that’s a bargain if it helps me get through cbp quicker...

It’s nice to have all options. MP doesn’t really require any vetting. GE does and requires time to get it along with biometrics/ interview.

  10. Do tell us the brand and model! Very few of them are FDA approved...and those that are, are pretty expensive. (A little off topic, but inquiring minds want to know!) ?

I have an earlier model Panasonic from about 13 years ago. It is pretty basic but does all the tricks. Although if i had a chance i would buy a newer model with the air bags and foot massage feature. I tried one recently by a brand called "Infinity" and it was really good. However, it has a very large form factor and not really appropriate with the minimalist aesthetics of my place.

If you go to Fort Lee or Sunset Park, there are some asian massage chair retailers that let you try their chairs. From what I've seen the prices seem more reasonable than the 8-10 K chairs offered in the brand name stores. I haven't tried negotiating but i think you can get a good price at one of those places if you are adventurous and a good negotiator :)

My korean friend swears by a heated "jade" stone shiatsu/accupressure bed. It is extremely painful, but you do feel like a new person after using it.

  11. i have a nice japanese massage chair and it provides all the necessary tapping/stretching/kneading for post-gym, post travel muscle relaxation. Most escorts i have met are not really good at massage and i'd prefer to hire them just for the "fun" aspects. My poor married brother claims that my massage chair is better than sex...I respectfully disagree.

  12. NO, not a hot muscleboy escort for $100 hr......

One day I was looking for something I know I had, but couldn't find..... I looked all over, then checked a dresser draw I almost never look in... I didn't find what I was looking for, BUT I did find a brand new, pristine in box with dustbag Louis Vuitton mens wallet.... Someone must have given it to me YEARS ago and I put it away for safe keeping.... That's what us OLD people do, we SAVE things for that "maybe one day" moment, or those "just in case" times..... millennials aren't like us. they are "of the moment" and don't care about tomorrow.....

Anyway, I aint gonna use it because I already have another that I use, so I called the LV store, and after some research they told me they no longer make that model, but its value is $500.....

So I put it on EBAY, and accepted a best offer of $450.... Enough for a 1 hr escort with OVERTIME....

The point here is (since its not one of those Avalon posts) that we should hoard stuff.... I have downsized a lot over the last 2 years but only hit surface stuff.... I haven't searched every nook and cranny..... If you haven't seen it or used it in years, chances are it will survive you and someone else will DUMP it when you die.... Go thru your shit....you never know what treasures you will find ???

Going back to your original post ;) you are right. we have too much. I have 4 Cartier watches and I was looking to buy another one the other day. What is going to happen to those watches? I don‘t even wear watches now (except going to the theater where phones are off), plus i pay for regular maintenance of those that I have.
