I have a great photo of my grandmother and three of her grown children, including my father (my mother was also included in the shot) standing outside the Royal York Hotel in Toronto in 1938, dressed in all their finery, about to head off to the church for my uncle’s wedding. Standing beside them looking up at them was this young newspaper lad with a baseball cap on and holding newspapers in his arms. You don’t see that anymore outside hotel entrances.

My father brought the New York Daily News home after work every day, so from the time I could read it and understand the stories, I would at least glance at the front page. (I remember the photo of Truman on the front page the day after the 1948 election.) But I didn't become a regular reader till I moved to Philadelphia when I was 21 and started reading the Inquirer and the Bulletin. From then on I always preferred to read the local paper wherever I lived rather than watch TV news. In Palm Springs I have The Desert Sun and the LA Times delivered every morning, and always read them. I figure that if there is anything interesting in one of the national papers, like the NYT or WaPo, someone on this site will point me to it.

If you watch movies from the forties and fifties it is no unusual to have a background street scene in which there is a newspaper salesman yelling from a risk to get the papers. Sometimes, if it pertains to the story, you will see a newspaper close up, spinning into view and then allowing the barring headline to be read.
I started reading my local newspapers, The Long Island Press, The NY Daily News and the New York Post when I was about 8 or nine years old. The Kitty Genovese story was particularly compelling. The involved a young woman being murdered and dozens of people hearing her cries for help and yet none called the police or tried to intervene. I eventually switched to the NYTimes for news but stayed with the others for sports. entertainment and such. I was having the NYT weekends (FSS) delivered to my home and then with the pandemic, the service became erratic, and I stopped my subscription.
So my question is, Are there on the forum any avid newspaper readers who actually get a newspaper? For those newspaper readers out there, at what age did you start reading the newspaper?
Just as an aside, at about 17 I taught my dog to fetch the newspaper from the lawn, where the delivery person always seemed to toss it. kismet was a great dog and she seemed anxious to do it. She always came right back with the paper and never chewed it up. I have not trusted any of my other dogs to go out without me and return despite this track record.

So sad to learn of his passing. Almost without fail he provided insight, intelligence and/or humor in so many threads he participated in. Will be missed. Rest in Peace.

Sorry to hear this. Got to know him when he moved from Boston to NYC. He used to join a group of us at the 20 Club. A very intelligent man who made some very thought provoking posts.

One other thing I did do was to give him some "walking around" money. I didn't ask him whether he had credit cards he could use but since he was in a different country, having some cash in the local currency meant he could buy himself treats without asking me each time we were out in public.
 
Also, I'm not the type to take escorts shopping. First I hate shopping myself, except for groceries, since I like to cook. Every other type of shopping I find a chore.

I've had the same experiences. Lots of communication beforehand to discuss likes/dislikes and get a feel for each other's reactions to things, and then the time flying by because so much is already anticipated and works out beautifully, and then the follow-up messages from time to time.

Part of the concern we have about Daddy’s condition is also related in addition to his health the steps that can be taken to try to avoid falling into his situation when one lives alone and has a health crisis. There have been several suggestions that have been very useful in knowing how to prepare oneself. All of life is a learning experience if we are open to discussing things openly and with good intentions.
 
Of course we are deeply concerned about Daddy but there is precious little we can do about it in the current circumstances.

Update Friday, March 12th. I sent the social worker a few additional names of associates of daddy’s. Hopefully, these leads can turn up someone related to him or someone who might have POA. Thanks to those sending me this information.
 
Daddy’s condition remains the same. No change from Wednesday’s report.
 
It’s now over 2 weeks since the police found daddy on the floor of his home. Other than keeping him in our thoughts, prayers, or sending good karma, we just have to patiently wait for the healing/recovery process to kick in.
 
I truly appreciate all the concern and love you’ve shown for daddy/Guy Fawkes. He means a lot to us. I’ll do my best to keep you posted.

Except I understand that Haulover Beach in North Miami still has a gay clothing optional beach. No such beach in Ftl.

I went with a client once. He was too anxious to go on his own so he hired me to go with him. It’s a good bar, lots of space, everyone is naked on naked nights but we went on a clothed night (my client’s anxiety meant he didn’t want to go naked). There were some guys stripped down to pants or less but most stayed clothed or just topless. I got naked because I prefer it that way but my client just took his top off. He only wanted to watch so I got off with a few guys there while he watched me then we went to his hotel about 5 minutes walk away on Tottenham Court Road so he could relax and release.
I’d recommend going on a naked night or pants night because the atmosphere is more anything goes. There’s a dance floor (no one dances), a DJ and seating area showing porn. There’s also an alley with gloryhole cubicles. Some vaulted cabins with saloon style doors for more private encounters and a darker area with flat seating where most of the action takes place. It can get very busy there with naked bodies pressed up against you and hard cocks probing your hole. If you want to get fucked just bend over a barrel and someone will have a go, usually bb. It’s a good place, I’d recommend it.
