My only quibble with your scenario is the lone time for both in an overnight date. I definitely allow for it in a weekend date consisting of two nights but really only one full day. During that day I expect the escort will want to catch up on his cell phone and future arrangements so I leave him to do that in another room while I also occupy myself on e-mails etc. For a one night sleep-over, with the escort leaving soon after breakfast, I would resent having to provide time off for the escort to do his other business. After all, I am paying him for his time and the time when we are awake is not all that excessive in relation to when we are sleeping. I’ve never had any issues with this btw and I do a lot of overnights (got one scheduled tonight) and also weekends. For me it’s the only way to operate in this pandemic. I don’t see anyone in the 3-4 weeks between dates and wear my mask wash my hands etc in all outdoor errands such as shopping.

You take two of the pills 2-24 hours before sex, one pill 24 hours after the initial dose, and one final pill 24 hours later. ?

So basically you have to plan ahead to have sex. Do consult with a trusted medical practitioner. Prep will help you prevent HIV transmission but not other STDs.

My experience is similar to Sam. My MD explained 2-1-1 but I don't always plan ahead. Pre-COVID if I heard from a Scruff hookup or FB on short notice I was ready to go with daily. I stopped completely for a long time during the lockdown and will again if there's another outbreak.

I don't take any other meds and have experienced no side effects with prep. Having lived through the HIV crisis I recognize the irony of being more worried about COVID than HIV.

@Yeahman - - I've been on Truvada for about two and a half years. When the stay at home orders started, I stopped taking it for a couple of months and after consultation with my physician, I resumed it on the 2-1-1 method prior to taking a trip in late July.

For me, I'm a creature of habit and the daily routine works better, so I went back to the daily schedule earlier this month.

Actually it goes back to the 1960’s when America was very unpopular in Europe because of the Vietnam War. In 1969 I took the summer to hitchhike across Western Europe and visited 13 countries in 4 months. That summer there were many Canadians and Americans like myself, mostly studying in university and just getting in a summer of fun. Canada had a brand new flag (the red maple leaf) then and it stood out smartly on my backpack. Many Americans that summer, on discovering they couldn’t get a ride sporting the Stars and Stripes, traded their flag in for the Canadian one. I would laugh at these ersatz Canadians with their Brooklyn, Boston or Southern accents. But to the Europeans, it worked mostly as they couldn’t distinguish one English accent from another.

It goes a long way being Canadian with the older generation of Dutch. Not sure if it would cut it today since memories of WWII are rapidly fading. Sometime around 35 years ago I was heading out to the airport at Amsterdam on a Sunday morning to fly back to Canada and was the only person on the airport shuttle. So I sat up beside the driver. When I told him I was flying home to Canada, did he ever get enthusiastic, telling me of how the Canadians had liberated his town, etc. I didn’t mention I had been having sex with one of his fellow citizens the night before. The war hadn’t come up in our conversations but the guy was at least half the age of the bus driver.

I think people are surprised because our history of slavery is largely a footnote since the numbers were so small. The French, who were the first European settlers in what became Canada and parts of the USA, did not engage in slavery to any appreciable extent since the mother country did not and the population mostly consisted of soldiers, administrators, priests and farmers on small land holdings. What they encountered here amongst the aboriginal population was a long practice of slavery, predating European contact, amongst the various tribes (today called nations) arising from conquests and subsequent enslavement of hostages. The native Indians, as they were called, even took white slaves, and particularly women, but these were relatively isolated instances. When the British arrived in 1759, they did not bring slaves with them. However, 40 years later, after the American Revolution, some British officers from the 13 colonies, like Virginia, brought some household slaves with them to what became the new province of Ontario. These only numbered in the hundreds and their offspring were granted their freedom. Upper Canada outlawed slavery even before Britain as the first governor of Upper Canada, later called Ontario, took the first steps to curtail it in the late 1700’s during his term of office. This is not meant to be an excuse for what happened here but just an explanation of what happened and to provide some historical context.

My mind takes me back to 1974 and that winter in London. I was doing a lot of work there and remember the electricity shortages because of the problems with the coal miners and the UK’s dependence on coal for electricity. In the office where I worked, we had an electrical generator on the roof and although it switched on at 4pm when it got too dark to see in the office, after a couple of days we had to turn it off because our neighbours in the fashionable district in the West End complained that we foreigners had preferential treatment from the electricity company, which was not the case. But appearances are everything. So we sat around after 4pm and broke out the booze with a few candles to light the office. No work after that hour until leaving time at 6. The government held a snap election and Edward Heath lost and the Labour Government caved into the miners and the lights went back on. You must have been to the opera that summer when things got back to more normal.

I get the point that both countries are heading in the direction of a second wave, which the graph shows, but Canada is starting from a much lower figure of new cases each day per million of population. Given that most cases in both countries are community driven now rather than by travellers, which was the case in the first month before the border was closed, bending the curve once again should be easier in Canada than the States but that will depend on peoples’ actions going forward.

LOL @europeanman This could be a caviar-and-champagne soap opera, and he sounds like a true pretty-boy. If I were ‘in your shoes’, I’d be sorely tempted to mess him up with some rough-and-tumble sex. You know the sort of thing - strip him naked while you stay clothed; make him fellate you as soon as he arrives for a date; fuck him in the shower - and convert him from pretty-boy to bad-boy ;-)
