mike carey reacted to + BenjaminNicholas in Credit card debt hits 1 trillion! How much do you owe?
First, have a high FICO score to get the best CC offers.  It could be points, miles, cashback or a combo.
Get the card and satisfy the terms of the deal.  Likely a minimum spend in a certain number of months.
Churn the card by paying it to zero and shelving it, or just cancel if you don't think there will be a reward clawback.
There are a ton of CC blogs and groups out there that go into insane, minute detail.  Every card.  Every offer.  Everything.  Even how to snag more points/miles/rewards through retention agents.  These are the people who likely have a spreadsheet for everything in their lives.
I don't fault them:  I just don't have the willpower to do the same.

Watched old Johnny Carson reruns tonight. He did Carnak the Magnificent skit, where he is given the answer and "divines" the question.
    Answer.  Oil of Olay
Question. What do you use to deep fry a bull fighter?

mike carey got a reaction from Luv2play in Getting the latest Covid vaccination
    From the Shingles vax thread.
Public health advice, in Australia at least, differs and recommends Covid updates in many cases, and is generally based on the value of the updated vaccines in mitigating the severity of the disease if you catch it, not preventing you from doing so.
Herd immunity is a population level protection, and is different from a general level protection derived from the immunity that most everyone (you included) would have from exposure to the disease and from earlier vaccinations. That may have been what your PCP was talking about.
Herd immunity results from a high enough proportion of the population having a level of immunity (however acquired) that means that it is unlikely those without, or with a low level of immunity will be exposed to the disease and contract it. It is also localised, not necessarily regional or national level. If you travel to a city or country where the disease is prevalent, your home herd immunity doesn't protect you, you depend on your individual level of immunity.
By way of examples, most of Australia has measles herd immunity, but cases occur in regions with low immunity levels, or when unimmunised people travel to overseas regions where it is prevalent and bring it back. Pertussis, or whooping cough, has herd immunity (mainly from childhood vaccinations) but vaccinations are highly recommended for certain groups of previously vaccinated people who are not at risk of severe disease (eg grandparents) but who even with a mild case would pose a significant risk to unvaccinated people (their new-born children too young to be vaccinated).
None of that is to diminish the importance of the advice of your PCP or your decision on taking their advice. Their advice would be tailored to you personally and not simply be a statement of general immunity in your community.

    Actually, no.  There is data.
Americans' net worth grew 37% after pandemic hit: Fed survey
Real median net worth increased from $141,100 to $192,900 between 2019-2022
Auggie, it's horrible that the price of cereal has gone up.  It's a wonder that people with $50,000 more in net worth aren't starving to death.  How do they even get by?  And worse, a recession is coming!
    Again, there is data.
While its true that the average person with $50,000 more in net worth by 2022 and higher real wages in 2023 can barely afford a bowl of cereal, the fact that we made it past the global inflation and supply chain squeeze might explain why people are feeling better.  Ya think?  The US had lower inflation than most of the rest of the West.  Even though inflation sucks.  And our economy came out the strongest on the planet.  Maybe that helps explain why this recession has gone missing for so long???
It does help explain why my stock nerd nephew's net worth went up hundreds of thousands of dollars........... in the last few days!   He bought SOXL at about $7 a share in Fall 2022 and just kept buying more.  Which speaks to why we might not have a recession.  All that investment in tech and chips is paying off.  The US is the global leader.  I followed my nephew's lead, but own a lot less SOXL.  So my net worth only went up tens of thousands in the last few days.  It's horrible!  A recession must be coming!
    That said, opinions do matter.
    😉
