I had to fly back east last year and flew in and out of Palm Springs for the first time and OMG, it is SO worth it!! The convenience is unreal plus the people working there are just so much nicer

Plus there were supply chain issues causing a huge shortage of air freight space which meant people who would normally get delivery of orders by freight had to switch to express services.  UPS and FedEx had huge, but temporary, profits as a result. It was a supply-demand imbalance. 

Now that things are returning to normal, they have volumes coming down, year over year, but still have significantly more shipments than they did pre-covid. So the volume and profit windfalls are over. It’s back to normal (good, instead of very exceptional) growth now.
 
Yes they are bellwether companies. But the numbers don’t mean impending recession. They mean the results must be viewed in light of tough comps that are specific to the express transportation industry. 

I was all ready to break out the spreadsheet (yes, really, I was peak nerd in April) of my expenses for the trip (not just Palm Springs, but also some other travel and an east coast reunion) but instead I'll just second what @nycman and @purplekow have already said. The main expense is the travel (don't I know it), then the unavoidable high cost of most accommodation in Palm Springs, and a car rental if you choose either to fly into an LA basin airport rather than PSP or to have the safety net of your own wheels for the duration. Those costs are easy to scope before you go. Once there, I spent of the order of $100 on groceries, coffees, wine and take-away food on top of the modest costs of the two scheduled restaurant meals. You could spend more depending on where you choose to eat (my room had a kitchen). The cost of in-room entertainment is another matter.

Dr Blackstock has entered into a serious debate about the apparently entrenched attitudes of medical professionals towards people they don't see as being capable of making accurate assessments of their symptoms. It's not a new observation that doctors make that assumption about anyone who is not a middle to upper class straight white male, and that it's not necessarily a conscious bias on their part. The same issues have been raised in this country but mainly in relation to women, race not being as salient issue here as it is in the US. The rev-head wife of a mechanically illiterate man would recognise a similar experience if she were in the workshop or car show-room with him.
As she notes it is a two-way issue with people starting to doubt their own ability to understand their bodies, and so their 'permission' to question the doctor. There is also the distrust of the medical profession to contend with, the Tuskegee syphilis experiments that she mentions being one of the more notorious sources of that distrust. There is a parallel type of distrust here among indigenous communities, of government officials from police to child welfare, because of their historical roles in the removals of, especially mixed race children from indigenous families during the stolen generation. Older women, now grandmothers are the among the elders in those communities and many of them were among the children who were removed, so the distrust is visceral.
My take from the interview that it is mainly the attitudinal change she and others see as being needed in the medical profession that she is seeking to address, less so the suspicion level of patients. The issues affect the quality of health care that those subjected to them, women, POC and other minority and disadvantaged groups, are likely to receive. I also didn't get the impression that she was looking at casual racism in health care settings. They are likely to be no more or less prevalent there than in any other facets of life, and although they too can affect the quality of care, they are less likely to be systemic, and so less amenable to the systemic change she advocates.

Congratulations Team Carota!!  Wow, coming back from a 2 sets to love deficit is a helluva feat.  So happy for Jannik, such a deserving first-time Slam champion.  At the same time, you gotta feel sorry for Daniil, who lost his 5th Slam final and his 2nd after leading 2 sets to love.
This is Sinner's first Slam victory, but it won't be his last.  He has the game to win many many more in his career.  We'll be seeing a lot more goofy carrot costumes in the stands.

No such luck, if I'd been anywhere today it would have been in Brisbane at the cricket where the West Indies narrowly won its first test match against Australia in this country since 1997. But alas, I've watched both the cricket and the tennis on the TV.
