I stick to condoms over prep because I don't like the idea of a daily pill and nowadays I only have sex a couple of times a year anyway. HIV research is something I have a bit of a morbid interest in. There's one company working on a single shot CRISPR cure. They've tested on small animals and primates by infecting the animals with HIV and then tried their therapy and the animals were completely cured. They've now received approval from the FDA to proceed with human trials. Assuming they're successful, we could be looking at an actual cure within 5-10 years.
If HIV is just another STI like chlamidya or syphillis then is there still a reason for gay men to use condoms at that point? I only use condoms because of HIV. I don't really care if I get any other STI because they're all curable (herpes excepted, of course).
