10 days paid sick leave per year as a universally available benefit in Canada
Other bit of COVID-related news is that the Trudeau government is going to be pushing for universal (I.E. available to everyone) of 10 days of paid sick leave per year. There are some political machinations behind this.
The Liberal minority government wants Parliament to continue to meet as it has been, once a week with representatives from each party and remotely in addition. The Conservative Party wants Parliament meeting more frequently in person. (With Trudeau's daily 8am press conferences in front of his house, the Conservatives are not getting a lot of media face time.)
So, it looks like the Liberals are going to go along with the NDP (social democrats) universal 10 days of paid sick time idea, exchange for the NDP's support for Parliament to continue meeting as it has been.
