Variable quality sex, exposure to potentially dangerous situations, possible arrest and criminal record (depending on jurisdiction), exposure to STIs, less money than one might expect, especially in light of the time spent arranging each meet... I could go on listing the disbenefits for an hour or more. I enjoy escorting, which is why I’m continuing to meet some regulars in my semi-retirement, but it would be misguided to think that escorts don’t earn their fees.

Best of everything to you in your retirement. You'll be missed-one of the good guys who treats clients honestly & always provides a stellar experience.

I don't know an escort who does not get an erection for a nightstand of Ben Franklins.

Sex with clients does become one's sex life for many. Even the G4P guys tend to get more "bi" sooner or later.

Ultimately "easy money" is like "found money" and isn't conserved well. I know too many escorts who were clearing $150,000/yr years ago but on food stamps now. (actually, a couple were on food stamps when they were clearing $150K). And unfortunately there's no Social Security/Disabilty/Unemployment quarters earned.

Ha. I moved to London at 16, so my accent is very mild. Americans tend to think I'm Irish, and Scots think I'm English. I don't know what Aussies think... I should ask.

I once had a co-worker who was Scottish. She was married to an American and had lived here in the USA for many years. She told the story that when her brother turned 18 he went off to London to seek work. She said that he soon returned home because he said that his accent was so thick that no one could understand him.

A lot of Scots also talk faster than the English, which can amplify the problem.

Self-awareness is always an attractive trait. Now if only I could understand a Glaswegian accent.

Just listened to a Glaswegian accent on Youtube. I think I could understand it after a few minutes. Around here, I occasionally hear a northern English accent - maybe Manchester. Until you get used to it, it sounds like a different language.

Only if they have the stomach to do it, believe some don't last cause they can't stand the job.

Found money? I think they'll have to earn it...

I do know plenty of escorts who retired with nothing, that happens way to often. Some folks just don't know how to save let along investing it.

@bigjoey has pointed out many times escorts (and other jobs that pay cash) and the fact that many of them are using food stamps or receiving free healthcare because of having no income. Now they're also getting free PrEP.

Who wouldn't be flattered being compared with the likes of Alan Silver and Cord on Fire Island?

I've not been to Fire Island in a couple of decades....forgive me if I miss the reference.

It's the "daddy" reference...as someone who turns 45 this year, I'm not sure if I should be having a mid-life crisis about that. :)

At 45, I wouldn't think of you as a daddy, but plenty of guys would. I'm 66 and proud to be a daddy. But at 45 you're eminently hireable

Cord is daddy escort who lives on Fire Island.

And he's not really much older than you.

Oh, my.

At the risk of sounding vain.....I like to think that I look quite a bit younger than he does. The hair is still dark, though I admit to a little grey starting to peek through, for example.

Don't get me wrong....he doesn't look bad for his age by any means. But there is no where near that much snow on the old roof for me just yet.

My work involves talking on the phone & calls from Scotland can be the most challenging. Mine is a London/Southern English accent & I was floored when a lady from Aberdeen said she couldn't understand me - 'It's the accent!' So the problem works both ways.

Back in the early 1960s my father worked for awhile in NYC. He told me one time when he went to the dry cleaners - I forget now whether Brooklyn or the Bronx - he could not understand them because of their accent and left. These were ordinary white people and not immigrants.

In my work, I write extremely detailed technical specifications in a variety of technology areas. One time, I was working with a Taiwanese company. I met with the CEO to interview him. He was from Taiwan, and was speaking English, but his accent was so thick that it didn't even sound like English. I though, "Oh my God, what am I going to do?" I sat there, nodding and taking notes for about 90 minutes, and before I left I got all the printed documentation they could furnish. Fortunately, I was able to produce an adequate document from the printed documentation.
