For my niece and nephew it started a lot longer than two years ago, as August 12 is my birthday!

I have a niece and nephew in their 50s. I had another niece but she died a couple of years ago. None have children. I wanted to be called "Uncle" but my sister would not allow it.

Just by my first name.

 

But my sister had some strange parenting ideas. At least for the first child anytime someone got a gift she thought her daughter should too. I was only six years older than my niece.

My mother sometimes overindulged my sister. My maternal grandmother lived with us. She had twin beds in her bedroom.

 

Several years after my sister's three children were born one day when I came home after school I went to my bedroom and the furniture was gone. My mother had given it to my sister. For several years I slept in the twin bed in my grandmother's room.

I have not heard of this...I'm an only child but a lot of my friends' kids will call me uncle and the kids will give me gifts on father's day. Good to know there is a separate day.
