I think that the current tour of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, starring Norbert Leo Butts (if I somehow got that name right) is the funniest musical I have seen, since maybe as long ago as when I first saw Forum.

PS. I'm sorry if someone, even myself, has already mentioned this. I know I shouldn't repeat things, but its been that kinda week. }(

Butts is hilarious and deservedly won the Tony for his performance opposite John Lithgow for 'DRS.' After Lithgow left the show (to mixed reviews), Jonathan Price (Miss Saigon, Glengary Glen Ross) took over the role and REALLY blew critics away. He was great.

Norbert is only touring with the show for the next 5-6 weeks, so catch him while you can :)

Universe sent me to the middle of my book of Wicked - just starting to read the novel, already saw the musical on tour - last night and I saw there that he was the original Fiero on Broadway. Wow! Finding out more about him might be the final staw, finally, to make me go to IBDB for the first time.

I saw him in DRS in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Totally one of the funniest performances ever! Is he still touring? What cities now? (in San Diego after LA).

But will Butz stay with the show thru July '07? Without him, it immediately closed on Broadway and it is not a good enough show to have legs without his performance.

RE: Avenue Q

Q is gearing up for a national tour, but is having to back-track to get support because they burnt bridges when signing 'exclusively' with Wynn for their Las Vegas production. While the ass-kissing will mainly be a formality at this point, the tour is predicted to do well.

Butz (imo) was never originally intended to be the 'name' or heart of DRS. They originally brought Lithgow into the show (even though, yes, he didn't win the Tony for that performance) to be the marquee ringer, but it turned out that Butz's performance was so incredibly over-the-top and cynical, that he snagged a trophy as well as the audience.

The aesthetic of the show changed quite a bit when Jonathan Pryce replaced Lithgow. Butz finally had someone he could go toe-to-toe with characterwise. It was a fantastic pairing. Much like in 'Sweet Smell of Success,' it seemed that Lithgow just wasn't cut out for either of those two musical roles.
