I posted a video on xvideos years ago... today I got this email and I don't think it's spam.

"/!\ Xvideos has received a copyright complaint regarding one or more videos you uploaded: http://www.xvideos.com/video625925/nico_machofucker

If you feel that this material has been removed in error, and/or is a fair use of copyrighted material for educational, commentary, news reporting or other non-infringing purpose, you have five days upon receipt of our email to send us a counter notice on counter-notice@xvideos.com.

If you are unsure of the required elements for a counter-notice, you may consult with an attorney. If we do not receive any counter-notice from you within five days, your account will receive a ‘strike’ for unauthorized posting of copyrighted materials. Thereafter, if you upload any additional video(s) that become the subject of a new copyright complaint, unless you send us a counter-notice, your account will receive an additional strike, up to three in total.

If your account accumulates three (3) strikes, it will be immediately deleted and all materials you have previously uploaded will be disabled.

Moreover, you will be permanently banned from uploading materials to the Website and we will use information about your account and site usage, which we collect and store, to detect and prevent any attempts by banned users to create new accounts.

OP note: The Adult Film industry is a legitimate business just like any other, some may not approve of the content they produce, however, but it still exists and is a part of the economy. Though I've always been under the ideology that if there is a want/need, then it will be filled, which is exactly why any business exists. Why not cover the content that is produced by this industry? If you view it from the standpoint of a normal business, they are producing unique works of cinematographic art that ordinarily, would be covered under copyright laws. Why deny them the protection of the law if they are a legitimate business, paying taxes, and producing something that is consumed by the public?

If the industry went after copyright violation the way Hollywood protects their product, this might help stop it.

A cease & desist- or even worse, a weak email warning like the op's, is meaningless unless the studio or website is willing to pull the trigger on a flesh and blood lawsuit.

Good idea but I don’t think they have the time or the money to do it.

Lately there's a flood of OnlyFans videos on the free sites. Copyright enforcement seems nil and it's probably good advertising. Also the big studios are quick to get their copyrighted stuff taken off but also quick to supply shorter segments to those sites as free advertising. In each class there's probably a line between what is free advertising that gets more customers and what is a rip-off that loses money.

I spent a couple of days at a porn/cam etc. producer’s home...and he showed me how he another co-worker of his would scan the “tube” sites and have such letters sent out...usually to the company itself, and then the company notifies the user.

So people are watching regardless.

That’s what smart Pornstars are doing to own their product and make good money instead of just being randomly hired by studios.

I seem to recall that VPNs protect against that sort of detection. Of course, that does not relieve the individual who download copyrighted material of the morality of the act. However that is a different question.

Should the same lack of morality apply to those to repost pics in the gallery? :p

Guys it's a cat and mouse game, not even Hollywood is able to keep movies from being copied and sold.
