I've been looking forward to this movie. People said Travolta couldn't pull it off, but they forget he got his start as just another pretty chorus boy on Broadway.

I hope everyone on this list realizes that many Gay leaders and organizations have called for a BOYCOTT of this film.

 

First and foremost it stars one of Scientology’s staunchest supporters, John Travolta, a man, who has long denied his own homosexuality, and actively supports the Church of Scientology. You should be aware that Scientologists believe homosexuality can be cured and actively reject gay and lesbian members. Furthermore as a devout Scientologist, John Travolta donates a large portion of his salary to support the activities of the Church of Scientology. As a result, any monies he earns from this film will wind up in the pockets of the Church of Scientology; thereby promoting the belief that homosexuality can be cured. The same holds true for Tom Cruise. One of his next projects is producing a sequel to the gay film "The Birdcage."

 

I will not support this film. No way! I think John Travolta's involvement in this film is hypocrisy in the highest form. This man has had active gay relationships in the past and more than once was observed here in NYC at the Gaiety Theater in its heyday.

 

Please help me and other gay organizations by boycotting this film.

Right on, Ed. I remember back in 1979 when my roomate came home,all excited because John Travolta had just cruised him in the soup section at the local grocery in West Hollywood. Harvey Fierstein could have handled the film role quite well, but I guess an openly gay star was too much for the movie producers.

I agree with you and have no desire to see the film anyway, but you should realize that you're wasting your time. The majority of posters here are deep in the closet ("I would never do anything to jeopardize the life I have now -- the one based on a lie"). Topics such as homophobia, gay marriage, Don't Ask Don't Tell, etc., generally elicit no response on this board because those topics terrify closet queens. They would much rather discuss Bob Barker or American Idol or anything else than have a discussion about anything meaningful to the gay community because they do not feel any connection to the gay community. The gay community frightens them and they wish "out" gays would just shut up and be quiet and afraid, like them. Calling for a boycott here is a total waste of time.

We should all be allowed to post whatever topics interest us and benefit our community. If some choose to ignore the information, so be it. We can't always agree, BUT silence=death, so therefore I have to make the attempt to educate, inform and sometimes make others smile. If just one person listens, well then, I've achieved more than I expected. It's a free society, but I still ain't seeing that movie! LOL....

I feel the same way. That's why I don't mind being a broken record about stuff like "straight acting," etc.
