history nut that I am, had to look up the place.....I'll bet there may be a forum member who was here before it closed in 1964.....quite a history.....the building still stands at 710 Montgomery, now occupied by an upscale French cafe.......the google link is safe for a "now" picture......

For those of us involved in the legal battle over gay rights on the East coast in the 1960s, the Black Cat was legendary. So when I made my first visit to SF in 1967, I hoped to see it, but it was gone.
