Contacted him yesterday on Rentmen Messenger and told him what I was looking for and when and I wanted the meet to be at a hotel here in Nassau. Responded a little while later and said he was interested and was at a hotel already. I had already gone to bed and I responded the next day but it was very difficult getting any info from him. Being as I said I wanted him to come to Nassau I assumed he had a hotel room out here possibly visiting. So I send a msg but no response then I send a second msg and get a 2 word response. So I lost my patience and said it seems you're not interested and I'm moving on to which he responds by saying he's in the middle of packing as checkout time is noon. But still not telling me where his hotel is. A few hours later he tells me the hotel is in Manhattan and I got the impression he did not pay attention to my first email explaining what and where so I'm done with him.

This is just my opinion, and not fact. A lot of Manhattan hires don’t like to travel outside of the city. If they do, their rate goes up. I would have contacted him a few days earlier and ask him if he’s interested in coming out to LI. That way, you’ll know whether to get a room at a hotel near you, or travel to him.

That's especially true for visitors. Travelling from/to Manhattan can be a pain -- dealing with trains/ubers/car rentals/jitneys, etc. There's the time it takes to get to and from. Depending on the day and the time, traffic makes it more of a pain. For a lot of visitors, NYC IS Manhattan, and travel to LI or other boroughs isn't in their frame of reference.

Travel by LIRR to my area is 35-40 mins....Taking an Uber on a sat eve with traffic can be 1 -2 hours...I would prefer to hire an escort for 2-3 hours instead. I would offer 50 for train fare. No employer I ever had ever paid my transportation to and from my job or for my travel time. I would be willing to pay the 50 upfront by Venmo or Cashapp.

I did and he was interested but he was so damn frustrating with one word responses or no responses until I prodded him so I walked away.

I have been working for 45 years and for the past 25 years owning my business and I have several accounts for over 30 years and have accounts whose fathers did business with me years ago. I know good customer service and the key is communication and honesty. Those 2 things will take you very far in successfully running a business.

I've said this before, but I gotta giggle at NYers and their little travel horror stories......I realize it's very crowded back there and cumbersome to move around, but many of we Westerners think nothing of driving an hour or more for a good burger and a cold beer......

I agree, but I've lived in rural and urban areas and NY is different. Most Manhattan residents (let alone visitors) don't have a car. Parking is a hassle unless you have a monthly parking space which either will be on the outer edges of the city or cost a good chunk of money. I lived in midtown for 15 years and would almost never drive. When I first moved to New York (from Maine), having a car wasn't an option, and leaving the city was a hassle. When I moved from New York to the Boston suburbs, I drove everywhere from close by for errands or several states away to visit friends or relatives. For visitors, travel from Manhattan to Long Island is more daunting.

In my experience, travel to and from work is uncompensated but travel for work is compensated in many professions. I was an attorney based in New York and travelled all over for work. It was always compensated/covered. If you work for yourself, travel to/from your office is not tax deductible, but travel from your office to a client location is a deductible expense.

I get your frustration, though. You would think proximity to Manhattan would make it easier to arrange for a session in your area, but I suspect it's more difficult.

Yeah when it comes to booking NYC-based providers (or visiting providers) it'll be tough to find one that will travel outside of Manhattan. Like someone mentioned, to many Manhattan = NYC. It's not car friendly and the subway is very inconsistent with shut downs, delays, weekend construction etc. I'm regularly over there and I have family in L.I. and deep in Queens, I haven't seen any of them in years because I'm just lazy and refuse to do that travelling. I have my residence in Brooklyn and whenever I'm in town I don't bother booking an outcall. I just get a hotel in Manhattan and host the provider there.

A person living/staying in Manhattan would rather be social, find fun locally vs. travelling to another borough....even if its a 30-40 min train ride. It's the same thing here in Montreal and Toronto. Even though both cities are a bit more open, spaced out, and better for cars, most providers here are based downtown and aren't looking to leave that radius.

Its not like Los Angeles where you need a car to get around and providers are open to moving around. I've always said for NYC and Toronto, if you've been raised downtown or live downtown, everything outside of it is "far." If you've been raised or live in the suburbs/outer boroughs, then nothing is too "far" since you're used to long commutes or drive often.

So I guess travelling out here is a hassle but every summer weekend hundreds of city dwellers make that miserable trek from NYC to Fire Island and the Hamptons.

Of course "hassle" is shorthand for "not worth it to me", and reflects a more comprehensive balance of the costs and benefits of the travel. It is often worth it for guys to undertake the travel time/logistics to spend several days on Fire Island. That offers benefits beyond a 3 hour appointment, both in terms of personal fun and potential concentration of clients. It also suggests you have the option of hiring guys who stay on Fire Island for whom the time/travel is likely less of a hassle than coming from Manhattan. Especially for guys visiting Manhattan for a few days, a trip to Long Island IS a hassle, takes several hours and involves taking forms of transportation they otherwise wouldn't be using. I'm sure you know all of this.

When worked in Midtown Manhattan, I opted to pay exhorbitant rents to have a 2 minute commute. It made most sense for me given the hours I was working and the income I was earning. I could have gotten a lot more space for a lot less money if I'd been willing to spend 45 minutes to an hour commuting each way. For a visiting escort especially, travel time is a big downside. A 3 hour appointment becomes more like a 5-6 hour commitment of time.
