I have a bunch of DVDs, Magazines, Catalogs, Calendars... and not sure what to do with them.

I don't want my relatives to find that my porn collection when I die... hehe. Maybe I should give it away before that happens.

I already destroyed mine...years ago....once the VCR went extinct I decided it was time. Same with the DVD's, I could find all of the ones I had bought already online. So I cleaned out the closet and got rid of it...but I'm crazy like that. I did same thing with my CD's as soon as I subscribed to Apple music.

I also got rid of my VHS and DVDs over the years, and now I have everything in mp4 format, stored in the cloud and backed up to an external disk. My partner will inherit the still-growing collection, and dispose of it at his pleasure. No magazines or toys here.

I likewise destroyed my collection as I went along. First the Super 8 films from the 70’s along with getting rid of the screen and projector, then the Video cassettes of the ‘80’s and that machine is probably still in my garage, then the DVD’s of the ‘90’s. Kept that machine for viewing home films from the ‘60’s which have been converted to DVD’s. Most of the DVD’s I rented at the time so nothing to dispose of.

 

Now I subscribe to pornhub and get all the stuff I want at the click of the mouse.

 

The one thing that was hard to throw out was the cassette I commissioned with a filmmaker and an escort more than 20 years ago. They came to my home and we made a film, full length, with me as a supporting actor (the bottom). The top was the star. I kept it for the longest time but rarely watched it. So out it went.

 

Of course I still have my homoerotic art, which I paid substantial amounts of money to acquire over the years. It’s all good stuff, oil paintings, bronzes etc and I have it on display in my house. So family and friends see it. I recently gave a beautiful large oil painting by a good artist from Montreal to an escort friend to decorate his apartment and I helped him install it. It looks great as you enter his place.

I have a similar worry with my kink toys (big spanking and bondage fetish). Scared I may die in a car crash or have a unexpectant stroke and family will find them. What really scares me is if I get suddenly very ill and have to go in a nursing home or long term care and I'll still be alive knowing my family knows of my kinks.

 

I had a close call six years ago. Broke my femur and a friend who has a key to my condo was out of the country and the only other person outside of my cleaning lady and pet sitter who had keys were family members and I had to have my parents fetch clothes, etc. I'm praying they went to the drawers I told them the stuff was in and didn't accidentially open the drawer with my porn stuff.

True story: I had to retrieve a porn collection from someone who passed couple years ago. It took like 6 months to salvage it, but considering the content was a mix of gay and straight and mostly all interracial, I not only had to go thru the sister, but her husband...who was intent on trashing it all.

 

When I received the collection, I felt terrible they had to look thru all of it to be honest. I've been a sex worker for years and it was a lot even for me. (Though I was more of kid in candy store overwhelmed and they were probably more of kid at the dentist overwhelmed) Some went back as far as 1996 and early 2000s, on DVD. But the bulk were during the mid 2000s. Never watched the VHS ones since i don't have one.

 

I ended up holding onto them, and now they make fun backdrops during sessions. It's almost educational how much porn has evolved, but equally sad how bad some gay porns were. Straight porns tended to have much better plot and directory. Many gay "studio" porns would just flip right to the action with no storyline. Not sure if that's just preferred or by default.

 

I applaud those who are taking steps to "protect others" so to speak. But I don't think it should be a fear of having a desire for erotic content. It's not illegal and we're adults, and assume the actors are too. If any of us were to die, I can guarantee you'd not care about who's looking at your porn collection ?

I don’t have any porn, and never had a collection. I do have many pics of providers with whom I’ve “interacted” on an external hard dive. My larger concern would be the many pairs of boots in different sizes and toys and poppers. But, as @Jarrod_Uncut noted, we won’t be around to worry about the relatives’ reactions. And, we will be the centers of conversation for a while!
