Best COVID-era Travel destinations

Has anyone traveled recently? Living in the cold Northeast I always enjoy a winter respite. I am not anxious to get on a plane until vaccinated.

Spending three weeks in Cabo next month.

we have a stay at home order here in Ontario, Canada, for the next month. The NYT did an article yesterday which looked into Covid transmissions on airplanes. The long and short of it is it’s a bit of a crapshoot.

Australia’s Health Secretary and former Chief Medical Officer, Professor Brendan Murphy made it clear yesterday that Australians won’t be going anywhere in a hurry. He predicted that the border closure will likely continue for the rest of the year not withstanding the vaccine rollout.

I've been to Clearwater 3 times, Sarasota once and Ft Lauderdale twice since the pandemic began. At first S FL was locked down and the west coast of FL was completely open with wide spaces. Now FTL is open and packed.

 

The huge difference since the beginning is rental cars all but disappeared and now are starting to make a comeback but with outrageous rental prices. Last two times in FtL I was quoted $650+tax a week for midsize by National, where I used to use a corp code for $160/week. I Ubered.

 

FLL airport is close in and Clearwater/St Pete airport is close in. Miami airport and Tampa airports are far for Uber. Check rental prices first and assume you'll need to Uber.

My friends just went to Miami/Ft Lauderdale today and will be there for next week mainly to vacation and to also enjoy the Miss Universe pageant.

 

I was actually surprised to hear it was still happening.

While my research consisted of little more than this thread I decided to book a trip to Fort Lauderdale. While Puerto Vallarta is cheaper and warmer in February there's legitimate concern about new restrictions and re-entry requirements. Ideally, I'll have both shots before my mid-February departure.

I've had good times in San Diego recently as the city has relaxed their stance a bit.

 

Florida has lovely beaches, but ultimately, you're still surrounded by Florida. Sorta like Texas. However, a weekend trip into the Texas Hill Country is always a nice change from the major cities.

 

Chicago is back to business.

 

NYC is getting there.

 

Mexico City is awesome and easy to get in and out of.

Here in Canada all we seem to get is drip, drip, drip. Politicians of all stripes don’t want to level with their citizens.

 

All that they will say is “just bear with us for the next month. We’ll get though this together.” Then they fly off for a vacation somewhere while the rest of us are hunkered down.
