His Rentmen photos are not very good in a number of ways, but mostly because he looks angry.  I don't understand why so many men don't want to smile in the photos they use in their ads.  I think a nice smile is much easier to pull off than that "I'm going to scowl at the camera and make it sexy" because the latter just usually makes the guy look like a jerk.

I agree. If several facial photos are placed in the ad, at least one should show a smile or at least not a frown or dead serious look. 

Two weeks ago I was with a provider for a first date and his ad had multiple facial shots only 1 or two of which were serious. When we met we both had masks on but I could tell from his eyes he was smiling at me.

When the masks came off, followed by everything else, his smile was the only thing left he was wearing. 😉
