RE: Hmmm

LOL! NYObserver is right. You got the wrong Josh. I've found Josh Daniels is a popular name in the biz, but that's not me. Do you have his number though? Just kidding.

Josh

P.S. If you guys have questions in the future, post them on my site for a more direct response. Play safe.

You don't need AOL to view the secret page. It's best viewed with Internet Explorer.

Rather than make an extended comment on this posting and the site it urges you to visit, let me suggest you do just that: check it out and draw your own conclusions.

However, since Josh hasn't bothered to update what he claims to be 'the latest' info on the place--he's still got Billy Brandt prancing there (God forbid!)--let me pass along this week's lineup: Christian, Cameron, Todd (the Boston one, I guess), Jason, Simon, Tristan & Andre.

As I recall, NYObserver, in his review from last weekend, indicated that some of the above were doing the marathon as a kind of preview for this week's show, so you can read his comments on them in that posting.

And speaking of NYO, I have to wonder why he'd want his 'Hooboy' column linked to Josh's site. Had he read Josh's musings on the Gaiety & related subjects before agreeing to it?

My opinions do not reflect NYObserver's nor do his opinions reflect mine. I am linked to his reviews because he is a regular and sees the shows on a weekly basis. I do not. I have friends who work there and keep an ongoing correspondence with NYObserver to keep up to date. I can only try to give you the latest information as I get it and am able to post it.

Had looked at Josh's site earlier - he had written an email to HooBoy which was published in the email section with the link. Josh does have some "interesting" insights. They seemed to me somewhat ironic with his apparent use of this site for promotion of his site. But, he does say they are his opinions - and is certainly entitled to them.

I won't bore anyone with my opinion on Josh's site - ya'll can make up your own minds. To those "grandpas" and "middle aged men" Josh refers to, however, I would like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart. They, one way or another, struggled through some very tough years - helping to make things easier for gay people today. (Not that times are easy now - but I cannot imagine what it would have been like 20 years ago.) Now, would anyone like to hear my Jerry Falwell impression?

Brian,

Thanks for your comment. My site is meant to be entertaining while giving information from another perspective. I should note there are a lot of older gay men I have immense respect and admiration for like my uncle. I realize my views may not be popular with a lot of people. I just don't like seeing gay guys getting taken advantage of. Sorry if this seems like another shameless promotion. The truth is my site will not be official for a few months at least.

Deep kisses with tongue,

Josh

P.S. Remember to practice safer sex ALWAYS. Don't make me have to spank you! <whack> <hehe>

Brian, I couldn't find that 3/8 email from Josh Daniels to Hooboy just now, so I guess it's flown off to NeverNeverLand with so much else here.

Where, for instance, is that amazing episode of death-threats against our esteemed Webmaster? A few weeks ago, I remember H setting out [from parts unknown] for a new home in NYC. But the next time I looked, he was 'out of the country,' spirited away by well-heeled friends who feared he was about to be assassinated by an angry escort. Then, just as suddenly, there was no further mention of this (or record of it's ever having been mentioned!) and no further word of Hooboy's arrival in New York. Instead we got a disclosure from H that he hadn't really been living in Houston at all (just had a mail drop there), and a claim from some poster that H has, in fact, been running this highly cosmopolitan site all along from someplace called Vernal, Utah!

But, as Regina would say, I digress. The current topic is this so-called 'Gaiety Theatre WebPage'.

I have to concur with the poster who expressed surprise that NYObserver would actually want to be associated with this proposterous site. Yes, everyone's entitled to his own opinion, and yes, tastes in dancers and escorts will differ, and yes, not everyone's going to have the same expectations/needs with regard to private shows.

But Josh has concocted a site that (you'd think from its name) is some sort of celebration of the Gaiety, dealing with its unique role in NYC gay life in general and the escorting scene in particular, and then filled it with stuff like:

"My best advice for anyone who has never been to the Gaiety...is that while the dancers might be nice to look at, the show is generally a waste of money." And "If you're really into strip shows, I can see spending the money. Other than that, it's more trouble than it's worth."

This, coupled with such tidbits as "the theatre trys [sic] to lure you into the lounge area," and "[A] lot of times [the dancers] don't have a full erection or none at all," is apparently the inside scoop & latest info Josh promises visitors to his little sandbox. But wait! The sandbox then becomes a soapbox, as we are treated to "Josh's Thoughts on the Gaiety and More," a rambling disquisition on bisexuality, gay-for-pay 'business,' 'craved, depraved perverts and freaks (a regular part of the Gaiety public, J claims), and then - most breathtaking of all - a denunciation of the whole escorting scene as 'demoralizing to both parties involved.'

Mind you, I'm not going to say that Josh is WRONG about this. I just wonder why he would come here - of all places - to drum up business for his various sites. Truth to tell, they do make for an entertaining read, though perhaps not in the way Josh intended. Imagine a Holden Caufield of the late 90s, after coming out to his parents & little Sis (and undergoing one too many electroconvulsive treatments)...

Hey Skeptic,

Since the addition of the Chat option on the main menu, you now have to select News/Email and then when that page loads there is an option just under the Viagra banner to go to the Email.

As for HooBoy being spirited out of the country - I had read that on the message board as part of the whole Muscle Service Station thing - but I did not know that HooBoy ever said that himself? (I was gone for a week on vacation - don't tell me I missed that little bit of mystery and intrigue!) Anyway - seemed to me that the poster was just embellishing the story a bit. Oh well, I'll be sure and buy the book when it comes out.

Josh,

Just remember - one important marketing rule is to choose the right audience. I think you may have missed on that one. Of course that other important rule of marketing - "Sex Sells" - it appears you understand.

Have fun developing the web site. Hugs, Kisses and a big ol slap on the ass right back at ya!

For the record, I do not support Josh's site. I don't care if he posts my material UNEDITED and adds his comments AT THE END of my review. Everyone has a right to express their opinions, hopefully the readers of my column will not attribute some of Josh's views to me.

The Gaiety is far from a perfect place, but there are some very nice guys who work there.

Again I appear to be promoting my site, but I just want to clear the air that I am not out to ruin the escort business or scare people away from The Gaiety. In fact, you left out how I think gay men should have a place to see nude male dancing. All I can say is the really hot stories are coming soon. I promise you!

Deep kisses with tongue,

Josh

P.S. Thanks for the spanking Brian. Mmmmm, felt great!

Maddening but true, Brian, you missed one of the most thrilling of Hooboy's Perils-of-Pauline episodes. The MuscleService guy wasn't embellishing one bit.

But the fact remains that the Ministry of Truth seems to have deleted the whole thing from the Hooboy memory bank almost immediately after it appeared in News & Udates.

Either that, or I'm going to go back & buy a whole lot of what I was smoking last week.

I call on Regina, Muse of History, to fill us in on this moment of high drama!

Regina, don't you hold out on us!

Skeptic my love, I am REALLY out of the loop on this one.

I tried going over to the Muscle Cervic Station to read what all this tempest was about, but ended up annoying myself trying to read postings to their forums (back & forth, back & forth) that I just gave up.

I've been away for a few days, and the sheer drama of this website requires daily (if not hourly) observation.

As far as Hoo-Boy's location, I read somewhere that there was a sighting in Manhattan by Boston Market (on 23rd street in the heart of gay, hairless, buff, nondescript, Chelsea---and you think the Castro area is the cradle of cloning PUH-HUH-LEEZE!!! (that's a Dan Savage moment whom I just LOVE)). Anyway...

No, I have no idea where the man is, nor do I know anything about him being spirited out of the country because some escort wants to blast him?!?! I've sent my check to Texas like he said.

I hope he's just safe, the wacky bisexual! :-)

Oooo, since this little forum is about the Gaiety website, I too wanted to make a quick comment. I don't think it paints the theater, the performers not the clients in a good light. I think that Josh should realize the irony of how a city like Manhattan, the big Apple, which made its reputation on grunge, hedonistic pleasures and pure pleasures of the flesh would now boast ONE measely male strip club. Porn boothstores and large adult theaters which hosted MAJOR headliners have been replaced by DVD movie outlets and restaurants. As far as tired old men who can barely make it up to the show rooms, it is these very same old men that many years ago were ralying against the city, the mayor, the police, to be who they want to be. Although their battle fields are urban, their struggle and angst makes them veterans in my eyes. Although I have and will participate in public protests, I would be hard pressed to go into hand to hand combat with NYC police (especially NYC police!) as these men did so many years ago.

Josh, I understand these are your thoughts and as offensive as I find them, I would be even more offended to see you silenced, I think you should offer a bit more respect to those older than us who, through their own personal sacrifice, have made it easier for us to live. I guess is it now our make is "easy" for us to live.

Them's my thoughts. Does anyone else hear Kate Smith in the distance?

Hmmm

Who exactly is this elusive Josh I'm wondering? Does anybody really know him? I have to say this site was an entertaining read. I found the Gaiety dancer confession especially amusing. I e-mailed the site with questions concerning The Gaiety and later found out information I got back from Josh was indeed true. Apparently this boy knows more than your average spectator. That's what leaves me to wonder whether I can take his scathing remarks about the place seriously. I sense he's either personally involved with one of the dancers or someone there and put the site together for pure shock value while advertising the theatre at the same time.

RE: Hmmm

I know Josh. Nice kid. Reasonably good escort. Which I find a bit ironic, considering the comments he makes about the Sex business. He's also a heavy smoker, again a contrast to the comments he makes about (lack of) smoke at the gaiety. The fina contrast, is his safer-sex guidance. Josh can be found on AOL under the screenname BAREBACKONLY. And although he claims willingness to use a condom in message on here, his website declares to the contrary. He's a skinny boy, not pretty, but not unattractive. Big dick. Pierced.

WE MEET AT LEAST

I finally got the chance to meet this mysterious Josh this past weekend at The Gaiety. I was pleasantly surprised to see a young cutie with striking green eyes and cute, lean body. Even though he told me he's not an escort I sensed he could be had for the right price. He came to meet up with an older guy he claimed was his friend but looked like a sugar daddy. This is an interesting phenomenon I've noticed at The Gaiety and I'm sure others will agree with me. You rarely see a lot of young gay guys at The Gaiety. I do see Josh's point on The Gaiety website how they feel uncomortable and how the older guys make advances. I've noticed young boys I'd see in the audience especially with older patrons who were escorts. Am I the only one who's noticed? And does anyone know how Denise feels about that? She probably doesn't care as long as she's making her bundles of cash.

RE: WE MEET AT LEAST

Sorry to disappoint you Ready4boi about not being "accessible". There are plenty of lean boy escorts out there for you as I'm sure there are on this site. As for escorts hanging out at The Gaiety, there are a few I've talked to before who don't dance but pop in from time to time. As long as they don't make it too obvious and attract attention, I don't think Denise minds. Stella's is a bar with hustlers nearby. Sometimes some of them show up but usually don't hang out for long.

Good Luck,

Josh
