A bizarre answer by Harrison Bader during an interview poured more salt in the wound for Mets fans reeling from a disastrous day for the franchise.

In what was supposed to be a fun interview with Bleacher Report on TikTok, the Mets center fielder was asked for his Mount Rushmore of New York athletes, to which he said, “Derek Jeter, Aaron Judge, and Anthony Volpe.”

Bader played with the Yankees for a season and a half from 2022-23 and might still have his head in the clouds dreaming of The Bronx while playing in Queens.

Bader, who grew up a Yankees fan in nearby Bronxville, said in a 2022 postseason interview that he idolized Jeter and the Core Four for most of his childhood.

Volpe led off last night's game with a single, becoming the second Yankee rookie age 23 or younger to have a streak of 21 or more. The other one was some Italian guy who dated some actress.

Young Mr. Burleson homered in his 3rd straight game tonight.

JACK FLAHERTY HAD TO LEAVE HIS START AFTER 5 INNINGS AND 60 PITCHES.  DON'T YET KNOW WHY.

LUIS GIL, AFTER GIVING UP 5 RUNS ON 7 HITS IN 5 INNINGS ON 4/26, WAS 1-1, 4.01 IN 5 STARTS.  HE IS NOW 8-1, 1.82.

LAST 7 STARTS:  7-0, 0.61  44 2/3 IP, 15H, 3R, 15BB, 50K

0-1-0-1-0-1-0 RUNS IN THOSE 7 GAMES.  2 OF THE RUNS CAME ON SOLO HRs, THE OTHER WHEN THE WHITE SOX (!) INEXPLICABLY MANAGED 3 HITS IN AN INNING.

Luis Gil is the first pitcher since 1901 to throw 6 innings with 5 H or fewer and 1 R or fewer in seven straight games.

Dude, do you think anyone has noticed we've lost 12 in a row and 16 of 17 and are back on pace for the most losses ever?

MORE TEXTS FROM ABROAD:

on a side board they had "MLB101" explaining rules as it happened.  "What is a HBP?"  "What is the bullpen?"  "What is a ground rule double?"  My favorite was "What is a K" "What is a backwards K?"

Another cool thing here.  Because UK is really pushing "green" standards and recycling under King Charles all the new soda, water and drink bottles, regardless of size, have the caps connected so the whole container get recycled as one piece.

A 2 out, 2 run double by Mookie Betts in the 5th ended the streak tonight.

Juan Soto is returning to the New York Yankees' lineup Monday night, serving as the designated hitter against the host Kansas City Royals, manager Aaron Boone said.

Soto missed this weekend's series against the Dodgers as he dealt with left forearm inflammation.

Aaron Judge, who started the Yankees' first 67 games, was given a night off from the lineup. Earlier Monday, Boone was named AL Player of the Week.

Tonight, when the Cardinals played the Giants, the cards' excellent rookie shortstop, Masyn faced off against the Giants' not so terrific starting pitcher, Keaton.

i'd say it was a Winn-Winn situation, but Masyn had a walk and a hit in two plate appearances against Keaton.

Not sure  Arenado's batting has improved. He has stated that on Cardinal sites

Cardinals star Nolan Arenado departed the club’s win over the Giants in the eighth inning today due to discomfort in his left forearm, as noted by MLB.com’s John Denton. Notably, that’s not the same arm that Arenado suffered an elbow contusion on after being struck by a pitch from Marlins right-hander Huascar Brazoban earlier this week. More information was not made available following tonight’s game beyond the fact that Arenado would be evaluated further tomorrow.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events in the midst of what has been a difficult season for the 33-year-old veteran, who is slashing just .260/.315/.375 with a 99 wRC+. That would be Arenado’s first below-average offensive performance in a 162-game season since his rookie campaign back in 2013. He’s paired that lackluster offense with surprisingly pedestrian glovework at third base, where he’s been worth +0 Outs Above Average and -5 Defensive Runs Saved. That’s a far cry from the fielding he offered at the position earlier in his career, when he won the NL Gold Glove award at third base in ten consecutive seasons from 2013 to 2022.

Center fielder Michael Siani also exited today’s game due to an injury, though Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat relayed after the game that x-rays on Siani’s ribs after he hit the ground hard on a diving play in the outfield came back negative.  Every time I see M. Siani in the box score, I read it as Mount Sinai (as in the hospital...)

HAPPY BOBBY BONILLA DAY!

Today, 61-year-old Bobby Bonilla will collect a check for $1,193,248.20 from the New York Mets, as he has and will every July 1 from 2011 through 2035.

In 2000, the Mets agreed to buy out the remaining $5.9 million on Bonilla’s contract.

However, instead of paying Bonilla the $5.9 million at the time, the Mets agreed to make annual payments of nearly $1.2 million for 25 years starting July 1, 2011, including a negotiated 8% interest.

At the time, Mets ownership was invested in a Bernie Madoff account that promised double-digit returns, and the Mets were poised to make a significant profit if the Madoff account delivered — but that did not work out.

Dude, have you noticed that Lin-Manuel Miranda's more-successful cousin has been en fuego and is now hitting .324 after following up a 5-5 night (three doubles) with a 4-4 (double, homer)?  He has 10 straight hits, going back to his last AB Wednesday.

The most successful member of the Miranda family has tied the major league record with 12 consecutive hits. There was a hit by pitch mixed in among the streak, but that doesn't affect the record.

Cousin Jose is now hitting .329.

The whole world waits with bated breath, as he is coming to bat this inning...

womp womp

The streak ends at 12.
