If you are worried about scaring, insist on a subcutaneous injection (the standard injection method for the smallpox vaccine) rather than the intradermal injection (which was approved by the FDA on an "Emergency Only" basis to ration the vaccine so it could be available to more people).  It was discussed here regarding Monkeypox in 2022:

 

People with a history of Keloid scars and people of color are advised to not get intradermal injections, but instead opt for subcutaneous injection to prevent Monkeypox.
