Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Facing Sex Charges

The rapper music mogul Sean Combs is facing a slew of charges in NY on sex trafficking and related offences. It follows a raid on his homes in LA and Miami in March and a recently settled law suit with his ex girlfriend who made similar allegations. A video of him beating up this gf in a hotel hallway was released a few months ago.

Amongst the allegations is one that he drugged unwitting female victims who were then subjected to days long orgies with paid male prostitutes. He would personally witness these so-called Freak Offs and video tape them for his personal amusement.

If convicted he faces a similar fate as R.Kelly who got 30 years in 2022 for sex trafficking minors amongst other charges.

He was denied bail although offering $50 million. He is joining a growing list of male predators amongst the rich and famous.

It becomes real easy to say this now, but looking back at his extensive discography, he at no time had a song I liked, ever. Many of his huge hits were merely blatant samplings of previous original music hits. It's crazy that his re-wording of "Every Breath You Take" was far huger than the original by The Police. (Yes, I'm aware of the circumstances, but that still is a travesty that the original is less popular today).

1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant found in his home.. hard to prove he wasn't pimping women!

I just read the account in the NYT and not the 14 page indictment. Not sure it includes pimping in the sense of hiring out women for the purposes of making money off them. Rather he induced or coerced young unsuspecting women to perform sex acts with hired male prostitutes for his entertainment.

His money enabled him to finance this enterprise if you want to call it that. Whether he used his fame as well to attract the women in the first place remains to be seen. I wonder whether the male prostitutes will be charged as accomplices as they must have been aware the women were drugged. Presumably they can be identified in the videos he took.

Federal prosecutors have a 90%+ conviction rate, but Combs is a celebrity.

Case is listed as:

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA V. SEAN COMBS, a/k/a "Puff Daddy," a/k/a "P. Diddy," a/k/a "Diddy," a/k/a "PD," a/k/a "Love," Defendant.

What will his convict name be?

Were I on the bench, the video of him savagely beating and kicking that woman would have been enough for me to take him off the streets for good.

and somehow he got away with it!

I'm sure it wasn't the first nor the last time.

Sounds horrible indeed.   I at first wondered about the "male prostitute"  part,  but definitely not gay.   Will be interesting to follow the case.

I have always assumed that the straight male prostitute that caters to women is in a much smaller cohort than male prostitutes that are either bi or gay and cater to men and or women.

The American gigolo as portrayed by Richard Gere I assumed was rare because so few women are either inclined as men are to purchase sex or have the means.

That of course is changing as many more women have achieved parity in incomes in the professional classes. Still the biological differences remain. Older women lose interest in sex much more than men do.

Still it will be interesting to see if the males involved get swept up in the legal proceedings.

There was the Showtime series "Gigolos" which showcased straight male escorts but it was all staged:

He’s been doing it for a lot longer than anyone has said. I remember him and Mase on South Beach in the 90s and everyone knew that when the hookers left the boys ordered more champagne and condoms and those weren’t for the next day lol. I’m sure Russell groomed him and before that Bam probably did too. The homophobia in the black community has made it extremely difficult for celebrities of color to fully express their sexuality and that leads to situations like this. The repression of one’s identity has lasting effects- and unprocessed childhood trauma or particularly sexual abuse has been proven to come back later in life to haunt the survivors and often turns them into perpetrators in a twisted attempt to reclaim their personal power and have a sense of control over their lives and the lives of those around them

Another tragic waste of a life. He could have used all that energy to do remarkable things in this world, to help people better themselves, all while he had a healthy, kinky, consenual sex life on the side. Very, very sad. In my youth, I interviewed for a job working for him.  I was heartbroken when I didn't get it.  Well, that was a land mine avoided!

That's part of my reading, in the description of his "freak-off" parties.

He apparently liked to watch handsome men rape defenseless drugged women, while he jerked off.

I am wondering if the mix of male beauty and violence toward women, wasn't a product of the mixed up feelings.of a deeply closeted man.

I don't believe the unprocessed trauma 'often' turns someone into a perpetrator.  It is way more complex than that.  And many abuse survivors would never even think of harming someone else - particularly since they know what it is like to be violated and then have to live with the effects.

I saw the video when it was released, and it made me sick to my stomach. I'm glad action has been taken. I understand rap music is popular, but I never enjoyed it. I also had a difficult time looking at this guy, because I thought he was ugly. There was just something about that face, those eyes, that I didn't like. When I finally saw that video, my gut said yes, he's a sick creep. The boys should have fun with him in jail. Career over.

Sorry. I don't agree with that statement. At all ! It's VERY common for victims of abuse to continue the pattern of abuse. Maybe not in the identical manner in which they were abused, but certainly it is known to create unhealthy side effects in people if left untreated.
