Spida's original observation and yours mirrors my past experience. Boston has been problematic IMO since I have been in the game. This subject has come up several times in the past and Boston seemed problematic for a number of others. This is regrettably good advice that visitors ignore at their peril. I live downtown (in a condo development smack on top of the old Combat Zone, no less) where supply and access ought not to be a problem in a town of this size. But my experience is the same as Tampa Yankee's -- locals are vastly prone to be erratic, unreliable, unavailable or, when available, expensive and clock-watching to boot. Wow, Boston has really changed. I was there in the early 90s and there were always lots of absolutely gorgous young boys (BelAmi quality) hustling around the bus station for only $40. Until 4 or 5 years ago, some last holdovers could still be found at a few places around that neighborhood. Corner of Arlington and St. James, diagonally across from the Boston Park Plaza, was one of the busiest. But I haven't noticed any street trade at all since the late '90s.
