Well, we've had threads about our favorite books, and movies, (Have we done painters/artsites yet?), but I don't remember us ever having a thread about what our favorite nonporn magazines are.

I'll get the ball rolling, so to speak, by mentioning Yoga Journal. No, I don't practice yoga myself, except occaisionally with a beginning Kundalini yoga tape. But I find many things here which philosophically feed into other things which I do do. I am always highlighting and clipping out quotations to use or plagarize when I finally write my own Reiki training manual.

Past favorites included Isaac Asimov's and Ellery Queen's, but I am about 15 months behind reading my magazines as it is, and either of those two is a wonderful forever for me to read.

And I'm not really talking about comic books, though I love and collect them, too. But, we have already talked about some of the great titles with gay characters in them here before.

Men's Health

Lots of HOT guys and useful information. Did anyone else happen to read that the guy in this months issue 3/02 Page 48 "Belly off Club" Just happens to mention that with all the changes in his life (he lost 105lbs.) that he "went public with his homosexuality" Of course it shows a before and after pic I can only imagine how much better his sex life is now! ;-)

This is only a partial list - I'm a magazineaholic - spend over $200 a month on them!

Apart from professional journals, these are my subscriptions:

The New Yorker

The New York Review of Books

The Gay and Lesbian Review

Commonweal

Apollo

Antiques

I used to subscribe to The New Republic, but after 9/11 they went totally insane and I let my subscription run out.

Like Thunderbuns, I used to spend a boatload on subscriptions. Shelter magazines, gay lifestyle magazines, computer magazines, news/opinion magazines, etc. A couple of years ago I realized that I was spending ALL of my recreational reading time on magazines, not books, and I allowed each and every one of my subscriptions to lapse with the exception of "Out and About," the gay travel newsletter. Now I manage to knock off a book or two each week, and I find that I don't miss the magazines at all. I find I prefer reading Kazuo Ishiguro to articles like "Get Those Abs in Shape for Summer Now!" It's nice not having that stack of must-get-to-next magazines piling up. Now I just spend a small fortune on books (I'm a Half.com addict).

The only magazine that I still subscribe to is Rolling Stone. From Money Magazine, Forbes, TV Guide to the Advocate I read them all online now.

Like I said, I am 15 months behind on the stack of mags in my bathroom waiting to be read. I am also a month and a half on my comic books, which I generally read at breakfast. (Or maybe the comic strips my lover brings over to me from his newspaper subscription - I don't subscribe to the newspaper, not with my reading backlog - I do NPR radio (yes,it's a redundancy) for that.) And I belong to three book clubs and one newspaper where I do massages gives me free books when they have something I would like. So I fall at least 3 - 4 more books behind every month, it seems like. Yes, I only get about 2 - 3 books done each month, less on months when I'm in rehearsals for two plays at once.

Mags I sometimes accept from my lvoer's stash, even as behind as I am:

Texas Monthly

Preservation

And although I know that I didn't just do it, would y'all mind taking at least one mag out of your list, perhaps one we might not be as familiar with, and giving us some info on why you like it. (Yes, some of us already have.)

Love, gossipy ole me
