While the South of the Border section is basically a guide to the joys of Brasil, I noticed that the Brasilian clubs do not get any mention here. The saunas are also male strip clubs, with shows and serving alcohol. They do go much further than their Canadian counterparts, in that you get far more than a private dance with the boy of your choice. I have experienced both Montreal and Rio and they each have their points. In MHO, Rio is by far the better time.

Currently Club 117 is the hot spot. It is run by two lesbians, who are very customer oriented. It is a very big club with two separate show areas,a video lounge and of course the "cabines". On a good night there are 50 boys walking around with a towel, more than willing to let you go where you will. There are all types, from hunks to twinks, and every shade in the rainbow. The shows vary from standard stripping to full fledged sex on stage. The Brailian drag shows are among the best I have ever seen. The Brasilian drag queens are foremost great entertainers. They are more accepted in Brailian life and seem to have far less attitude. One of Brasils most beautiful and famous sexpots is an out in the open drag queen. There is a $5.00 cover charge and the drinks run in the $2.00 range.

There are six sauna/clubs in Rio, much like Montreal. Other Brailian cities also have saunas/clubs, but perhaps the most most spectacular all male venue in the world is Lagoa in Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo is the third largest city on earth and has a very active, large gay community.

I would like to suggest that a North of the Border section be created. The scene in Canada definitely deserves more attention.

I'm not aware of any (since that's not my scene) but that doesn't mean they may not exist. As far as I know, the "shemale" scene in Brazil is concentrated in certain bars, some of the porno movie theaters, street prostitution, and escort agencies, where you'll find them listed under the heading "bonecas" (dolls).

As for he-male strippers, many of the bars and discos feature them, at least on certain nights. They're often part of a larger drag show; a number of the well-known drag performers seem to have their own entourages of hunky strippers. One thing I've noticed about Brazilian strippers, who for some reason beyond my ken are often asked to perform at the saunas where there are already umpteen undressed hunks wandering around, is that they often seem to be, um, underendowed. Stripping seems to have become a market niche for handsome, well-built but not especially well-hung guys who might have some problems making money at the saunas as escorts. There are exceptions to all rules, of course, but based on shows I've seen at many saunas, it seems to be more the rule.

Many bars in Buenos Aires feature similar shows, often mixed with drags. There is also a transvestite street prostitution scene.

The saunas/clubs have a $R15 to $20 cover charge. (The exchange rate today is $1.00 to $R2.72)You are provided with a locker and can walk around with simply a towel, or in my case I wear shorts. Sandles are provided. If you want, you can also just wear your street clothes, although that makes it much harder for the boy of your choice to play with your dick while you are deciding whether or not to take him to a cabine. If you show any interest, most boys have no problem with you getting them hard, right there in the lounge. The going rate for 30 minutes with a boy in a cabine is $R50 for the boy (plus tip if you are so inclined) and $R20 for the cabine.

In a large sauna/club like Club 117 or the Point 202, on a good night there will be 50 or more men available for your pleasure. This includes all shapes, color's and to a certain extent age, men. From blond/blue eyed to stunning black, from twink to bodybuilder, from 18 to 35 years in age.

Mother Brasil is the home to some of the most beautiful men on earth, and they do not have an attitude. One of my favorite pass times is to sit in a mall (while Wan Hallen, my Brasilian boyfriend, is shopping) and just watch the parade of gorgeous men. All you have to do is smile and make eye contact, and a Brasilian will walk up to you and say hello. Brasilians are among the friendliest (verified by a University of California study which proclaimed Rio the friendliest city on earth) people on the planet. Unlike Americans, they do not seem to need a reason to be friendly with a complete stranger. Straight men are not offended if you tell them they are handsome.

You will hear tales of how dangerous Brasil is. I felt just as safe in Rio as I did in Montreal. All anyone needs to do to be safe is to exercise common sense. For example, do not be walking around the streets at 3 AM, drunk, with a rolex and flashy jewelery. Hell, I would not be safe in Phoenix doing that.

For a wealth of information on Brasil, go to South of the Border and be prepared to be amazed.

Everyone on this site should be aware that there is NO WAY that Rio could be considered as safe as Montreal.

I have never heard of the rampant use of knockout drops used in Brazil ever used in Montreal.

Montreal is 10x safer than Rio and anyone saying otherwise has been blinded by his own love of Brazil.

It's true, there's a difference between FEELING safe and BEING safe. While I think the dangers of Rio are often overstated, I wouldn't say it's as safe as Montreal. But for all the details about Rio and Brazil, go to Escorts South. Start with the post for "Newcomers" to the board, then dive in! You'll find everything you need to know to have a good time, from how the saunas work and where they're located, to information on hotels and restaurants, living in Brazil, how to stay safe during your trip, etc.
