Well, we have finished our first complete week without the Gaiety, and most of us seem to still be here, so maybe we are survivors. I do wonder how the guys who went regularly to the G fared, not to mention the hooters and front row crowd. I hope they are all doing okay.

Finally, it must be an adjustment for Cooper and Foxy not to have revews to do and have an opening for lunch on a Monday. Although VDN is preoccupied with more important things, I suspect he misses posting those photos. But, I hope you all know how grateful we are for the service you have done here. Unfortunately, the blue light has gone out, leaving many of us just blue!

Lucky, it's been a sad week, but yes, life does go on. I am trying to find other (probably more productive) things to keep me busy. Perhaps I'll even save some money.

As for the front row hooters you mentioned, one of them passed away last year (there was a thread somewhere), the other moved away. I miss both of them and their enthusiasm.

In my mind, today won't be a Good Friday. It's not the same without my home away from home (and my seat!). Down the road, I'm sure it won't be as difficult. Going to the Friday night show, wondering who the reinforcements might be, was always a good motivation at work and made the day go faster, waiting anxiously for 5pm.

"Finally, it must be an adjustment for Cooper and Foxy not to have revews to do and have an opening for lunch on a Monday."

Lucky, Thanks for your concern. Foxy and I were into our 3rd year of writing G-reviews. We never missed a week and always found something good to say about the amazing bodies that graced that infamous stage.

Although there currently isn't anything like the G in NYC, we will keep looking and reporting... Bars such as SBNY, POSH, Therapy, OW, Townhouse (hustlers), Web, XL, Avalon, La Fluers, Crobar, etc. are just a few of the many places that have go-go boys, but not full frontal nudity... Gay weekly publications like NEXT and HX help in finding out what's happening in the Big Apple.

The Gaiety was a very special place and for those of us who were called the "regulars", will miss it greatly. Yes, life goes on and we move forward taking with us our wonderful memories.

This weekend the NY Auto Show opens and perhaps I'll find some "muscle engine" to get my mind off the G, :-) and then there's always Montreal, just a 50 minute flight out of JFK/La Guardia.

Btw Lucky, you've been going without the G for about a year, how are you holding up?

RE: I will survive!

Maybe it's time to start talking about alternatives. Perhaps the posters that live in or near NYC can keep us informed . I realize the g was one of a kind and I do hope something will rise from the ashes, but in the meantime let's move on!!

RE: I will survive!

Thanks Lucky for thinking of us. There is certainly a void in my life since the Gaiety has closed. Aside from the obvious loss of seeing naked boys dancing, I'm going to miss the club-like atmosphere of meeting MC posters there. The last 2 plus years have been a very different and fun experience thanks to Cooper and his out-going personality.

The dancers always knew he was on their side and they flocked to him in the Lounge. I don't think all that many even realized he did the reviews so it wasn't just about getting a good write-up. He just liked them and they liked him. So thank you Cooper for all the fun. Hopefully we can find another venue soon.

I confess I've passed the G a few times since it's closing and looked at it wistfully from across the street hoping there might be some notice that it was going to re-open. Nope.

Here's a funny anecdote though. My friend who saw the equipment being carried out on Monday told me he was standing in front of the theater and the door was open. He said he was tempted to steal the handwitten sign on the door as a souvenier. He didn't. I'm not sure I could have shown such restraint. It would have been fun to have framed in some garish gold leaf frame and hanging on the wall at home.

Happily I have a piece of silver tinsel from the cutain that got attatched to one of the dancer's feet. Cooper grabbed it for me. Such a treasure! I wonder what Denise would have gotten for the whole curtain if she had decided to auction it off.

Do I hear $1,000????

Lastly I've decided to open up a real can of worms just because I feel like it and maybe it will be a financial incentive for Denise to re-open the G.

What would Gaiety goers be willing to pay in admission if it were to come back?

While I'd prefer a ticket price of not more than $25, if the new place had a great atmosphere I'd spring for $50. I figure it's what I pay for a Broadway show at TKTS. Ok, start screaming at me now. I don't care.

It is my understanding that because Denise now has no income stream, that she will be auctioning off Gaiety momentos on EBay. I think NYO's permanent chair and the mylar stage curtain would probably get the highest bids. I think that she will also be auctioning off a bowl of punch, and old box of pretzels and the security guards!

AT Least for the New Yorker's ...Does Rentboy have a Stripper 1st/Escort 2nd.. Section? LOL I think that would help some Guys with their Withdrawal..ALSO you would get a Full 1 hr or more for $200..With you deceiding When, Where and How. Some guys could also decorate their Bedroom, to look like their Favorite "Hotel" Room. The only thing missing would be "Denise in the Booth" and the Security Guard! I know for Some those Stairs were becoming a real Bitch to climb to! LOL :+ :+ :+

My own absence from the G has been alleviated by reading the posts and reviews here in the forum. Cooper and Foxy were my eyes and ears! Of course, I always felt that I would get back to see the dancers again, but no longer.

I am retturning to NY soon, and will enjoy a stiff drink with those guys, and then I will throw the glass against the Gaiety front! (It will be plastic, thoguh!)

RE: Ideas ? ?

Looking for your thoughts,,,,

If a venue opened in NY at the location of an old female strip club using most of the same dancers the G used would it be some type of replacement for the G......

(There is a hurting female strip club on the west side looking for a new owner, my thought is to open either a private or public Stock type club in that location)

Doing so eliminates all the legal mumbo jumbo, stripping is stripping male or female.....The city could not reject the use. There are no neighbors to piss off, seems like it could work.....

NOOOOOOOO total nudity ! Unless the laws can be changed....

Iam looking for a lawyer to investigate the +/- to a private club...

Your thoughts ? ?

My thought is I would be there with a "good luck on your grand opening" plant with one of those tacky ribbons!

How did the G do total nudity? You couldn't apply for the same thing? Would you have "champagne" rooms?

Get a gay lawyer.

TAZ - go for it!!!! If you buid it, they will ALL cum!

RE: I will survive!

Taz, I only visit NYC three or four times a year, but I have been going to the Gaiety ever since it opened. I remember Denise as a young girl. Yes!! Even for us "out of towners" we need a new place! So many of the ones that Foxy and I have talked about are now closed. Cats! Showpalace! Eros! All gone. We would be thankful for a new place to open.
