Gentleman John La Fleur is hosting Friday and Saturday nights at a new club in Manhattan, (New York, that is). The club is located on the east side of 9th Avenue between 38th & 39th street. It's called The Door Under, or something like that. The bar is beautiful with a morrocan theme, from the tiles surrounding the entrance to the building, to the drapes inside to the hooka pipes placed strategically throughout the club.

There are three areas to the club: the bar, which you first walk into; up a few steps to the dance floor and dj booth, which is surrounded by overstuffed seats and sofas; then beyond some hanging fabrics is another area, more intimate than the other two with lots and lots of sofa-type seating and somewhat dim lighting. Oh, the bar is totally accessable with a handicapped bathroom right off the bar (which I used all the time because I didn't want to run downstairs to pee).

Last Friday was their first night and it was great to go and see people I haven't seen since La Fleur's closed. The club is very nice; certainly a major step above the previous hole in the wall which La Fleur's used to inhabit. I still wish the bar was open as it was open seven days a week and that touch of grunge really worked in their favor.

Anyway, on Friday they had a few dancers, not many, as it was their first night and another party had already been booked into the space before the offer had been made to John LaFleur, but for a bunch of breeders, they seemed to be pretty cool; at least there were no slap fights inside.

There was a $5.00 cover fee and the bartenders seemed to be a bit overwhelmed over the massive amount of drinking going on, but you can't blame Mr. LaFleur; the employees were of the bar, not his. I'm sure this will change somewhat as he begins to move further into the role of "Hostess with the Mostest". The drinks were good, considering they were made by heteros (they really don't know how to drink!) and in nice big glasses. They may have been $1.00 more than they were at La Fleur's but, well, what are you gonna do!

So...I hope you come by this Friday evening and partake in the festivities! It's always good to come home, even for the first time!:-)

p.s. I wish this had spell check because I can't spell worth sh*t!

I attended "the Door Lounge" aka the old La Fleur's on Saturday night. It's located at 508 9th Ave., between 38th and 39th Streets, http://www.TheDoorLoungeNYC.com -- I was very impressed with the bar, but the action at 11pm was very slow. There were 6 customers and 2 dancers. Each dancer had their special client and paid no attention to the other customers. It was a slow night and I left after a 1/2 hour and went to SBNY (aka Splash Bar) http://www.splashbar.com -- Lots of action there and 6 very friendly go-go dancers. Jason Adonis is the headliner for Sunday night.

I also went to this place last night and would never return. No effort whatsoever is made to help the guest feel welcome. There are quite a few straight people there and apparent holdvers from their regular nights.

It is a creepy place.

Good seeing Lucky back in NYC. We both tried to have a good time at this bar, but without many customers and friendly dancers/managers/bartenders, it wasn't meant to be... Although John LaFleur rents it out for the weekends, it's obvious that the owners are keeping a close eye on how things are run. I doubt very much if we'll ever see stage shows or lap dances at this location... I'll give some other bars a shot and see how their action is...

Sadly, I must agree with you concerning the new LaFleurs night. It's not so much the owner, who hasn't been by to see what's going on, but rather the bar manager and door man. Initially John La Fleur had been told that there would be a few "straight parties" happening concurrently as they had been booked into the bar prior to this arrangment. It's understandable and was supposed to be only last Friday. They did so well they offered the space to Mr. La Fleur for two nights, Friday and Saturday.

If you were entering Mr. La Fleur's party there was a $5.00 cover charge. If you claimed to be part of the "party" you were escorted into the back room and didn't have to pay. If you were there for the "La Fleur" party the door man asked you to check your coat upon entering the bar, but he didn't make the same request of the straights in attendance. John found out about that and put a stop to it pretty fast.

John La Fleur's hope is that the bar will offer him one night a week with a fully gay staff (last night La Bamba was one bartender, from LaFleur's; the other bartender was a rather condescending streight man that the majority of the gay men did not go to). If more gay men attended the bar on gay night, maybe this would happen...but as long as the straight couples are in attendance I doubt many of the male patrons will want a lap dance.

Also, there were more dancers booked in on Friday and Saturday night but a few of them didn't show up because it was raining. What losers!

Stay tuned...I'll keep you informed of any changes. Let's hope this works out; we need SOME place that's not a warehouse but has hot men! However you feel, believe me when I say that John LaFleur is not at all happy with how things are working out and is trying to get everything ironed out.

Wish him luck! Wish us ALL luck!
