The four male stripper bars (Boardwalk, Johnny's, Dudes, and Torpedos, and The Club sauna will keep you busy in the late evening and wee hours of the morning, the 18 miles of sandy beach will get you tanned and offer delicious eye candy during the day, the myriad restaurants will sate your eating appetite, but be sure and take advantage of Fort Lauderdale's rich cultural life as well.

 

This week is a great time to be in Fort Lauderdale, if you like the arts as well as the boys. The Florida Grand Opera is presenting Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" at the beautiful Broward Center for the Performing Arts downtown. Last night's performance was very fine, and the house was sold out. The audience was very gay, and most people dress up. Many men, both gay and hetero, were in tuxes, and many of the woman were in floor length dresses. The cast, especially Riccardo, Amelia, and Oscar were very good, and the orchestra was especially fine. A few blocks away at the Parker Playhouse, a large older theater, in Holiday Park, the new musical "Nefertiti" is continuing its preBroadway run and attracting large gay audiences. And this weekend, the Maximum Dance Company, one of the finest contemporary dance companies in the States, will be performing at BCC (Broward Community College) in the very nice Bailey Theater. The company has combined with another small modern company. They performed last week in Miami Beach, and the reviews were very good and enthusiastic.

 

Fort Lauderdale offers much to delight all of your senses, and this is a particularly good week.
