Last evening I had dinner with a very good friend visiting NYC. Following dinner we went to the Townhouse bar for a "nightcap" which turned into numerous "nightcaps". The Townhouse, by the way, doesn't have dancers but lots of men willing to dance and everything else for you in the privacy of your home...for a fee, of course. But it's a great bar nonetheless and you should check it out if you're ever in NYC.

Anyway...the bar closed at 3am and we made our way across the street to the O.W. Bar (Oscar Wilde Bar...isn't that just too clever???) There was a wedding reception going on for two men who had just celebrated a union ceremony at Central Park. One older, one younger, one obviously wealthy, one obviously enjoying his partners wealth...and since the one is MUCH older the MUCH younger one will get to enjoy even MORE of the wealth in the future, a la Anna Nicole Smith...but I digress.

While at OW, there were two bartenders working, one who looked very young and very sweet and was very nice. The other, initially looked hot but as you got closer you realized he was just looking hard, and not in a good way either. So I order two drinks for me and my friend from the hard looking bartender as the sweet one was busy with a few other patrons and paid for them. My friend then paid for the same drinks with the same bartender. It wasn't until we were sitting down and had been chatting for a while that I realized what happened. I went to the bar and said "We've been double charged" and the bartender (the hard looking white trash one) told me I was wrong, then muttered "fucking asshole" under his breath. I know I had a few drinks but I wasn't so drunk that I didn't realize I was being fucked over (and not in a good way) and insulted! I returned to my party and told them what had happened then proceeded to inform the others in the bar to go the the nice bartender for their beverages and if they had to go to the nasty one they should make sure they have correct change!

So...concerning the O.W. Bar, it gets Regina's two thumbs down and a big finger! There are lots a great bars in NYC; just make sure you don't include O.W. on that list. My only regret is that I didn't get that bartenders name because it would be included in my review!

FUCK YOU O.W. BAR!!!

Are the men "willing to dance" to be found at the Townhouse goodlooking these days? The last time I was there I wouldn't have taken any of them home, even for a freebie. But that was a couple of years ago. Maybe with the closing of the Gaiety, things have changed! One can always hope...

Lovey,

I rarely go to the Townhouse but when I do I always have a terrific time. I was there on Friday evening and Sunday evening; Friday's bartender in the front room was this hot Latin cutie with the biggest smile I've ever seen named Juan Carlos. On Sunday, the bartender was this big juicy hunk with the most kissable lips and pile driving thighs named Gary (him, not his thighs). On Sunday there were very few rent boys, almost all patrons and most were quite old but not all. On Friday, it was pretty packed of all ages with all types of patrons and rent boys. The class of hustler at this bar is far superior to any other bar I know of in NYC. These men, for the most part, are well educated, extremely polite, well dressed, and run the age spectrum. There was one man chatting up a few patrons who had to be in his late 40s and was one of the hottest men there because he was so into what he was doing. Although I personally am very attracted to men of that age, I would have done him anyway. He just had terrific style.

So, go to the Townhouse if you're looking for interesting people to chat with. I met someone from Dallas TX. someone from Paris France, two very sweet women from Scotland, another visiter from Colorado who loved to kiss you but then would bite you lip which I HATED so I got away from him. There's also a piano bar in the other room so you can enjoy live music but if you hate piano bars then stay in the front bar. There's also a bar downstairs but I've never been there. No, nothing raunchy goes on down there...I think it's just a bit more quiet.

the only draw back is it's across the street from O.W. and when the wind is blowing south you get hit in the face by the stench from that hell hole...but I'm not bitter!

By the way, don't go to O.W. If you wonder why, read my previous rant about getting ripped off by that nasty, unkept, hedgehog of a bartender on Sunday night!

I have been going to the Town House for years. It is a great bar, with a lot of different things going on. Gary is a terrific bartender, quite apart from his thighs, which are also admirable. It has its up nights and down nights, of course. For some reason -- I think it is the exodus of the wealthier clientele to the Hamptons or Connecticut for the weekend -- Thursdays tend to be very active, particularly after the midweek charity events and the opera and concerts wind down, and sometimes Sundays, when the same set returns to town. Sometimes the eye candy is rentable, sometimes it is looking for a daddy. I have been told on more than one occasion that, while I was attractive, I was not old or big (fat) enough. (The truth, of course, is that I'm not rich enough! LOL!) If you need an ego boost, that's one of a perverse sort, I guess. The piano can be a lot of fun, especially when Rick or Michael are playing. So there's something for everyone. As for escorts, the days of Rounds are gone. The real beauties have their pictures on the internet and are dividing their marketing time between serious computer sessions and the gym, and aren't seen in public all that much. It's a pity, but there it is. I suspect those who come to the TH are the type who want to meet the client first, as many clients want to meet the escort face to face. There are apparently still people like that.

I have never been able to figure OW out. Sometimes it has fun events, often of the "we're scheduled to start at 9 but we'll actually start setting up about 10:15" variety. The well scotch is the next thing to creosote. I just don't get the sociology of that bar, what it's "about". So I'm not at all surprised about your experience and reaction.
