First of all, let me just say I am too lazy to search in the archives, so I am asking for new help..I am considering a trip to Ft Lauderdale and wanted some advice on where to stay-part of town and specific hotels...Is there an area I can "priceline" to get a bargain that will be close to the gay activities? (Johnny's in particular)... Also...what else is there to do in between visits to Johnny's, Boardwalk, etc? I am not much of "Lay out on the beach" person..

Airfare to montreal from Phx has skyrocketed the last couple of weeks, so I am exploring my options for a first week of April vacation...

In addition to Boardwalk, you should check out Johnny's, which was improved greatly in the last 2 years. Also check out Dudes. Dudes and Boardwalk have gone down a little, but still worthwhile. I found the boys at Boardwalk to be too aggressive last month. Have not been to Torpedo's in several years, so I have no opinion there.

If you need addresses or web sites addresses for these 4 Lauderdale bars, let me know. They are widely scattered, and none are in the gay neighborhood.

There are no hotels that appeal to me near any of the 4 bars, but there are many good hotels in Lauderdale, not all near the beach. (I like to stay on the beach.)

I recommend checking prices at the nicer chain hotels, and also having a rental car at your disposal, since you don't want to be paying taxi's constantly to ride between the 4 bars and your hotel.

I've been there 3 times in the last year, and I do recommend the area, though the bars aren't what they were 5-10 years ago.

Just made the rounds of Boardwalk, Johnny's and Dudes. Thought Dudes was a waste of time. Not too impressed with Johnny's. Boardwalk still is the best of the lot. The two nights I was there, there were some very hot guys. All different types. Saw Sam(Michael), a Cuban with a great build and a 10 inch dick. Then saw very cute kid, Donovan, a Tennessee boy who was the type you wanted to take home. Then also saw hot young guy from Ukraine who was very interactive as well as drop-dead handsome. Boardwalk walks away with all tghe prizes.

In fairness to Johnny's, I live in FTL, and IMHO, Johnny's under the new ownership beats The Boardwalk. Some of the best former dancers at The Boardwalk are now at Johnny's.

There is no admission fee to Johnny's, even when there's a visiting porn star. Valet parking is $5, but part of that can be applied to a drink. The drinks at Johnny's are cheaper and just as good. The Boardwalk charges $10 or $20 admission after 9:00 PM. You do get 2/1 before 9:00 PM and no admission charge.

The new Johnny's is primarily for twink lovers, though there are some non-twink types. If you don't like twinks, then by all means do go to The Boardwalk. Every time I've been at Johnny's there's been at least 6-7 guys I'd be happy to hang with at the bar. I was there Thursday night, and there were plenty of well built cute twinks. Ralph Woods of Bel Ami is a bartender and dancer. Brent Corrigan, supertwink actor, blogger, etc. was a guest porn star recently. Jake (formerly of The Boardwalk) is a nice guy and solid granite - certainly not a twink. And his brother Jordan is a sweetheart.

The Boardwalk does have more of a variety of dancers, some of them very good. But I've been there on nights where at least 1/3 of the dancers should not be dancing anywhere, they were so out of shape. I can't say that about Johnny's.

There are three private lap dance rooms at Johnny's, all with comfortable living room furniture. There is one lap dance room at The Boardwalk with extremely uncomfortable massage chairs. They're good for a regular massage, but not for a lap dance. And you could be sharing it with one or two other customers.

I've said in other posts that these stripper bars vary from night to night. There's an element of randomness. So, if a visitor spends one or two nights at a bar, he may have hit good or bad nights. Different factors determine this. There are bad nights in every stripper bar everywhere, including Montreal, based on what members have said. There is also the element of personal taste.

The atmosphere at Johnny's is more relaxed. There are less guys aggressively hitting on you for a lap dance than I've experienced at The Boardwalk.

So if you're visiting here, give Johnny's a chance. There's no guarantee it will be a good night, but as I said, you take your chances in any stripper bar.

Let me try to get this thread back on track for lurkerspeaks.

He already knows quite a bit about what's on offer at the various strip clubs. So he asked:

>Also...what else is there to do in between visits to Johnny's,

>Boardwalk, etc? I am not much of "Lay out on the beach" person..

And he also is looking for specific hotel/motel information:

>I am considering a trip to Ft Lauderdale and wanted some advice on where to stay-part of town and specific hotels...

>Is there an area I can "priceline" to get a bargain that will be close to the gay activities? (Johnny's in particular)...

newatthis was in town recently, and I often found him up at the crosswalk, helping little old ladies (and men) cross the street.

Apparently he is a retired school crossing guard and just can't help from helping people. That's a good thing around here! :-)

Here are some miscellaneous ideas:

First, Johnny's is deep into a not so good neighborhood. So forget staying around there. And there's nothing right near The Boardwalk.

There's a new guest house in Wilton Manors. I'm afraid you'll have to be less lazy and search this forum (and The Lounge) for the name. The thread is not that old. I don't know if you can get any deal on it through Priceline.

Also note that many hotels don't drop their peak season rates until mid or late April. However, given the economy, you may just find an opening at a good rate earlier in April.

The Best Western on the Federal Hwy (not A1A)is a 3-diamond AAA motel in a main shopping area. Stores like Barnes & Noble and Whole Foods are nearby.

The guest house is right off Wilton Drive. You can walk to all the shops and the Shoppes of Wilton Manors. It's a short ride from The Best Western to Wilton Drive. Both are within easy driving distance to Andrews Ave.,where The Boardwalk is. The Boardwalk is in FTL, right across the dividing line from Wilton Manors.

It's only another 7 minutes or so to Johnny's. You just go south on Andrews and hang a right unto Broward. Johnny's is about 10 blocks west of downtown. You'll need a rental car or a taxi to get to these places. But distances are short here. It's a very compact city.

You should also check out the following site for ideas:

http://www.jumponmarkslist.com

The above site covers a wide variety of establishments and events of interest to gay visitors and locals.

If you haven't seen Las Olas Blvd., it's worth taking a walk there. If you walk east on Las Olas, you'll come to canals with yachts larger than the homes next to which they are docked. It has upscale restaurants and boutiques. It's the FTL version of Fifth Avenue or Newbury Street in Boston, scaled down. Mangos and La Bonne Crepe are both good restaurants with reasonsable prices. A lot of the restaurants on Las Olas are very expensive.

Hope the above helps.
