Male strip club in San Juan, Puerto Rico

A few months’ ago I had an awesome vacation in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The gay scene is quite low key compared to cities like New York and San Francisco, however a new strip club now provides welcome nightlife distraction...

 

Male Depot is a men-only bar located five or six miles outside the Condado neighborhood of San Juan and a little further from Old San Juan. A car or taxi ride is essential, and the taxi will cost at least $20 from Condado if I remember correctly - - be sure to agree the cost before the journey and that the driver knows where he’s going (take directions from the club’s website).

So. Male Depot is fun, dark and a little naughty. Arriving around 10.30pm (it opens at 10pm Thursday through Monday) it was pretty quiet. Most of the staff and customers speak good English (as with most places in San Juan). As you arrive, pay the entry fee (not more than $10) and sign in as it’s set up as a private club, then enter through into the main bar. The interior feels very industrial-chic with a bar along the right hand side serving alcohol, bar stools, and then mostly standing room only with a few tables and stools. There is loud music playing, porn videos showing to add to the atmosphere! The customer mix ranges from hot young locals and tourists to a comfortable older crowd. A little later in the evening, go-go dancers appear on the podiums, mostly dancing in their underwear. The dancers also mingle with the crowd and move throughout this main room. There are private dances available from the dancers in the private cabins, where you should negotiate the price (prices quoted by dancers varied hugely and most eagerly agreed to lower amounts) and also pay a small "key charge" to the club. Choose the right dancer and the private lap dance is amazing

 

At the back of the bar, is an entryway through to a sizeable dark room where customers can get to know each other more intimately.

 

It’s quite a late “scene” in Puerto Rico, with only a few dancers performing at Male Depot until around 12.30am when several more arrived and it got really busy.

 

Don’t be persuaded to head to San Juan just to visit Male Depot. But if you’re planning on visiting this beautiful city, it certainly makes for a fun night out. I stayed in the chic and safe Condado neighborhood which was convenient for easy bus travel to Old San Juan and I could just about walk to bars and clubs in the gayer Santurce neighborhood where other gay bars such as Starz (one of the coolest dance clubs I’ve ever been to) are. Old San Juan has amazing historic streets to spend a day ambling around. I loved heading out by ferry and bus to the Bacardi factory (wooooo free mojitos). Visiting the San Juan Museum of Art and History. And generally just strolling along the oceanfront.
