This is a public service announcement for anyone visiting Fort Lauderdale.

 

The Bel Ami Peters Twins will be appearing December 12 & 13 at Johnny's. There will be two shows each night.

 

Saturday: $15 in advance, $20 at door

Sunday: $10 in advance, $15 at door

Bozo just returned from a post-Thanksgiving sojourn to south Florida, and the scene at Johnny's in Ft. Lauderdale was more forgettable than ever. Apparently, management has embarked on a new crusade; implementing a height requirement for its new dancers. However, this is a seemingly bizarre reverse height requirement, whereby newly hired dancers must be less than 5 foot tall. Yes, this new group of emaciated, effeminate twinks (who blend in well with the queens and fems already there) were not only rail thin, behaving in a girlish manner typical of most Johnnys' dancers, but were frighteningly small. At least six of them were less than 5'0", three of them no more than 4'8", and the smallest measured about 4'2". At one point during the night, when four of these delicate, dancing dwarfs were shaking their tiny tushies on the main stage, Bozo was standing at the bar praying the wicked witch of Wilton Manors would swoop down from the sky on her broomstick and frighten these malnourished munchkins so they would scatter and hide under the barstools. Alas, no such luck... :(

 

Warning, Warning Will Robinson: Unlike Boardwalk and Dudes, Johnny's is located in a neighborhood that requires an armed security guard to be posted at the front door; this despite the fact a Police Precinct is right down the block. Friday night is 'Thug' Night at Johnny's. This is the night the deejay blasts (gangsta) rap and reggae music, and the bar is teeming with neighborhood youths adorned in their gold chains and du-rags. Extra security is on hand.

 

Caveat Emptor: Unless your preference includes waif-like, post-pubescent, sissy girls parading around a smoke-filled bar with music blasting at decibel levels way too loud, Bozo's advice is to save your money, lungs and eardrums, and pass right by NW 11th Ave. and get back on I-95.

 

As a wise man once said, "Yes, the new owner of Johnny's is recruiting like crazy. But he seems to have a policy of "anyone with a cock can dance here."

Forgot to mention what I learned from several of the dancers at Johnny's during my recent trip. Last Thursday night's event with the Peters twins was to be a closed, private party (entry fee $75, I think). The twins were expected to be butt-naked and to engage in sex with each other at this private party. If any of our readers anted up for this, a report would be appreciated.

A dissenting eyewitness account:

...while you will find only the occasional Stock muscle boy at Johnny's, it isn't hard to find nicely-built, non-fem, swimmer's-build guys. When I arrived on Wednesday night, for example, there was a gorgeous, 6'2", lanky, muscled, 21-year old ex-marine from Kentucky in the "box" (when you've been there, you'll know what that is) stroking himself under his underwear. We had an interesting conversation for about 20 minutes while I helped him out by playing with his nipples and caressing his body.

As a frequent visitor to all the South Florida clubs, I would have to say Bozo's review doesn't reflect what I have experienced there. Everyone has their likes and dislikes and quite frankly Johnny's is not one of my favorite clubs. Nonetheless; there are quite a few Boardwalk quality dancers (including some former Boardwalk dancers). I have never felt unsafe there. . .not even slightly unsafe. Never noticed that the security guard was armed (if in fact he is). . .the only thing I have seen the security guard do is check IDs at the door.

 

The only thing I can agree with is that the music can be at ear piercing levels.

 

On the flip side I have never found Johnny's to be as good (or even close to as good) as the other poster often reports/

Karl, every community has its Bozo. We have to consider the source in determining for ourselves the veracity of the review. Give us some credit; I think men will decide to find out for themselves rather than be discouraged by one review, that of a clown, no less.

Karl, I agree with you. Here in NY where many male strip clubs have been shut down or closed, gay New Yorkers would welcome a club like "Johnny's". I personally don't understand why it's necessary to ridicule dancers or trash a club just because it doesn't meet up to your expectations. If the dancers at Johnny's aren't your type then don't go. How fortunate you are in Ft. Lauderdale to have choices.

I do not understand why, on this message board amongst a gay community, criticism is frowned upon, and diversity of opinion is unwelcome. If we aren't ready to follow the lead of Karl G and gush all over the height challenged, anorexic look that predominates among the dancers at Johnny's, we should not be able proffer up an alternate view, as that is somehow harmful to the gay community? Either agree with Karl G's rose colored view or say nothing?

I, for one, find this one of the more arousing passages I've read here in some time. :)

The last time I was at Johnny's there were some very short dancers...one only came up to my waist --which was not a bad thing, just strange.

What were they like? What did they do? How did the audience respond?

 

I didn't go there myself, but spoke with a dancer who was there. According to him, they didn't do much of anything, except stand on the stage. I guess that's ok if all you want to do is look at them. For the price of admission, I would expect them to dance or mingle or do something other than just standing there. I once went to see Lukas Ridgeton at The Boardwalk. He just stood on the stage and never said a word. So I can believe the Peters Twins may have done the same.
