The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. sincitymix
True-life version of old 'Tunnelvision' (or 'Groove Tube'?) skit of Vietnam War news segment: the day's troop skirmishes at the villages of Llongh Wangh and Suc Much Dik. Reminds me of the time I was speaking to a Vietnamese customer on the phone at work. Her name was very similar to the one above phuc Bich. Everyone wanted to know why I was cussing out a customer lol.

AdamSmith
It? What are we talking about? I thought we were talking about human bodies. Am I wrong? Gman Yes! One whole body falling on something or somebody will do more productive damage than just one dismembered body part falling here, another body part falling there. No? + Gar1eth
Guest
I remember working in the nursery many years ago, and some parents from Southeast Asia (I can't remember if it was Cambodia, Laos, or Vietnam) were literally going to call their baby boy Phuoc Kieu. We said to the interpreter "Ask the parents if they know what that means". Without turning to the parents, the interpreter said, "Of course they know. It means 'Noble Warrior'!". We had to say "No, in English! What it means in English!," and the interpreter said "Oh....". The parents came up with another name... I guess that there are a few out there, though... https://www.facebook.com/search/more/?q=Phuoc+Kieu&init=public
