I was in Montreal not long ago and went by Taboo on several days.

As has been reported here, there is a sign in English that says "New management. Closed for renovations" but there is no sign of any work going on.

 

However, that may not matter much. Rumor has it that when (if?) Taboo reopens, it will reopen as a bar with strippers of the female persuasion. That is what Taboo was 25+ years ago, before it became the Taboo that we all knew and loved. This is just a rumor, not hard information, but it came to me with a certain amount of credibility. It does seem strange, though, to try to recreate that kind of a strip bar in (or almost in) the gay village -- unless maybe it is intended for dykes.

I tend to doubt that a strip club catering only to hetero men could survive in the Village. Perhaps DanseurMTL, who always seems to have inside information, would like to join this conversation.

 

What were your experiences at the other clubs like?

Found this on myspace. They were supposed to re-open July 12 with a porn star. I really do wonder what's going to happen.

I can't see anything on that myspace page indicating that it is in any way current. It mentions that they'll have their first-ever porn star show on July 12th, but it makes no mention of the year. It also doesn't say anything about "reopening" or new management.

 

I suspect that this was posted in 2009 and then they never bothered to update it. Here in 2011, who would use a myspace page anyway?

I concur with corndog as the last time the date July 12th fell on a weekend was Saturday July 12 2008... And that coincides with the heyday of Julien Cox's relevance!

As for Taboo their liquour licence has been suspended for 3 years, and yes it is supposed to reopen as a straight bar with female strippers. Taboo is not really in the Gay Village anymore, as the closing of the street for summer ends at the intersection of Papineau / Ste. Catherine E., and as of 2011 there is no gay commerce east of Papineau, with the closing of the Sauna Sainte-Catherine last year.
