Interesting Coincidence - Lowering Fees?

My own email today came with a note from Talvin DeMacchio. (Girl, you know I can't spell!) Anyway, in it he said that he was not going to do incalls in San Diego anymore because the local escorts there charge so little that he can't attract his people willing to pay his fee. Then today's diay (Have we all noticed the banner at the top of the pages can't spell either? - diaRy) from Devon and the twins mentions a fairly similar circumstance in Philadelphia. I doubt if, and hope that, this is the beginning of the end for touring escorts, but does it mean, perhaps, a levelling off or the start of a drop in fees? Many on this board have wanted fees to do just that for some time - Is it starting now?

 

Please bear in mind that I am not saying that escorts aren't worth $200 a session, particularly if they don't watch the clock. (There isn't a clock in my massage room. If you need to be sure to get out of there quickly, be prepared to watch the clock for yourself. Otherwise, I'm bound to let you leave within two hours, aren't I?) And this shoud not be taken as a personal criticism of any one escort in particular.

Bilbo - that's an interesting observation. As I was perusing (now who can't spell?;-) ) reviews and Rentboy lately, I began to get the opposite impression. It seemed to me that the going rate, even in (as I have condescendingly labeled in the past) the "secondary cities", has gone up to $250/hr. I love those places, by the way; cities like Houston, Orlando, Columbus OH have always harbored more energetic and enthusiastic escorts for me than L.A. or New York. But I digress.

 

Of course we get into that old tired debate of supply and demand, and the impression that escorting seems to be both recession-proof and price inelastic - but I'd be encouraged if we could find a cap somewhere, and that $200 would be that cap. Still, when I hired last month for the first time in nearly a year, I convinced myself to pay $300/hour in LA. I had a grand time, but my gosh - I couldn't afford to do that on a regular basis.

Thanks for the diary plug, Bilbo, but the entry you're referring to (yesterday's) was actually about a guy who approached me out of the blue for a paid scene on m4m4sex (where guys generally go to hook up for free) while I was looking for a little off-duty fun my last night in Philly, and who tried -- without success -- to haggle my rates down. None of the clients I saw in Philadelphia, who were all sweet as can be, had a problem paying my fee (although I've heard Premier dominates the market and keeps the local rates lower than in other towns). I would recommend the City of Brotherly Love to any other escort as a great stop on any East Coast tour. I know I'll be back. :9 It was a mildly funny anecdote, but I don't know that it points to any trend.
