Multiple Forum "Handles"

In the past, we have suspected at least one individual of posting under several personas. I'm not referring to someone like mocha aka JoeyBryant where we all knew it was the same person....and he never tried to hide it.

 

I'm referring to someone that does it on the sly. Why would someone do this? What are they trying to achieve? Does it reflect underlying psychological issues with the person? Sybil Syndrome, as it were?

 

BTW, I am also NOT referring to someone that writes escort review under a different "handle" than they use on the forum. I get that and the desire for some anonymity when postin reviews.

 

What does everyone think?

I had 2 handles here and still do. I created it when I got into a situation with a forum member that caused me to wnat to hide (embarassment, I guess). I cleaned out my current profile and moved into a new one...I manned up and resolved my issue with the person and took on my current "skin" . Having 2 profiles is not always nefarious....

I've always believed that having a suspicious mind says more about YOU than the person you have the suspicions about.

I used to use something like "world traveler" but there was/is another guy who called himself "Traveler" and another "World wide Traveler" or some such thing, so went to an older ID I have used, but without any nefarious reason except memory failure.

Yes....no doubt there are perfectly valid reasons for setting up a second profile.....such as you have described. I'm actually thinking more about an individual that posts actively using two or more profiles. Why would someone do that? Does it seem like odd or strange behavior?

The question should certainly be posed to the person suspected if its so important to the inquisitor. I really dont care what user name a person posts under as long as the post itself has substance and quality, and I can take something away from it, even if its a chuckle.

 

Now if you are planning to invite them to your dinner party, well then it might matter ?

I notice them all the time and for the most part don't care.

 

There is only one or two MPD (Multiple Personality Disorders) that we keep an eye on because he/she/it/them/they have occasionally used their various facets to gang up on somebody.

 

I myself have three; one as the admin, one as a tester, and one that likes to tease Silver Headed Foxs.

 

Several well known escorts have a public and private handle which I whole heartily support.

I confess that the thought of someone posting at the same time under 2 different aliases without acknowledging they are the same person bothers me - it seems clearly deceptive to me.

I can certainly understand escorts having two handles. Why not? Regular posters though? Not so much, especially if they use both personae to attack another forum member. That strikes me as a bit cuckoo. More than a little, actually.

I agree with you Seeker. I dont care if an escort has a 2nd undeclared alias, but it does disturb me that a non-escort would actively post under 2 or more handles. Yet it happens. They are in our midst. I find it creepy actually.

Whats creepy is the unnatural Obsession with this topic. Its the internet. Does anyone really know who anyone REALLY is ? And WHO really cares ? We are basically ALL strangers. If you are so invested in the cyber world that this is really an issue for you, you have much biggger problems.

Isn't it odd that Ms JJ has gotten involved in a thread I started. That hasn't occurred for 4-5 months as far as I recall. Ever since I made it clear i dont swim in his sewer. Yet he immediately got engaged on this topic with multiple posts. Getting defensive as well for some reason.

 

Now I know he had plenty of time to plot and scheme his return during his "time-out". I expect he has already put into place his plan of how he can torture the rest of the board now that he is back.

 

Anyway back to the original question of the thread. Why would a non-escort actively post from more than one profile?? How do the rest of the board members feel about a poster that does this.

Secondly, I wasnt aware that there were certain threads I was NOT ALLOWED to reply to, and Thirdly, i was not being defensive in the least, merely responding to comments made on this thread.
