I get your point. I was not part of that "in-crowd" with all the inside jokes being played out in the public forum. And all that gushing. Mind you, I look back fondly on those days compared to today's Lounge experience which seems to revolve around one single attention w*o*e and a couple of his enablers.

Actually what's ruining the board is the attitude that one can get away with posting something inflammatory and nasty about someone else and then post some hypocritical bullshit fauxpology about how "they didn't mean to start anything by it," whilst half or more of the so-called "fun-loving" members of the board jump at any opportunity to bare their fangs and claws like stink on shit.

This is really the most ridiculous thread I've seen on this message board, and although I didn't join until relatively recently, I've been reading the forum for lord knows how many years (my earliest reviews on Hooboy's old site go back to 2001). I remember very recently telling JJ to post on threads irrespective of his forum enemies, and him telling me that I obviously didn't know his history. Nothing could be further from the truth, since when people on this board get nasty, it's literally impossible not to know about it (it really is like Junior High, like someone else said). In fact, I remember when JJ first started posting here last year and he posted a similar topic in two separate areas. Two people, who shall not be named, attacked him in one thread, then followed him to the next thread and attacked him again. I stepped in to defend JJ, not because I knew him or anything, but because I couldn't believe the audacity of some members to harp on a newbie's mistake and then follow him just to do it again. It seemed to serve no purpose other than to be mean and nasty.

 

I'm not saying that JJ (or any of us) is a saint, or that he doesn't give as good as he gets, but to be this nasty to anyone online just seems so ridiculous. As maxwell said, this thread's original poster obviously knew exactly what he was doing by starting this thread and it was so dishonest to then say he didn't mean anything by it. The truly sad thing, is I remember a few years back when there were really ridiculously racist and offensive posts made by a handful of posters on a regular basis, and I lamented with another poster how the forum just lets it be all in the name of free speech, no matter how hurtful and offensive those posts may have been, particularly to members of color or anyone else who simply doesn't appreciate such bile. Of course I understand and cherish the value of free speech, even to express hateful or hurtful ideas. Yet, I never saw any posts started like this one saying how racist posters were bringing down the quality of the forum or driving good people away, etc. But we get this kind of post just about a personal axe to grind? Seriously?

That was me! And I agree with everything else you and Maxwell said. I have to admit I hadn't been participating as much in the past year or so because of that very reason, but whenever I did pop in to check on things (and to see if I could inject some of my ™ smartass humor into a thread), I often found I couldn't because it didn't seem like a very playful playground anymore. But I did notice JJ's posts (which reminded me of some of the earlier, more opinionated posters here who are long gone) and the ones constantly attacking him. The attacks were what turned me off.

Max has the luxury of anonymity that I do not, but I don't care too much about that right now. Members here always wonder about how honest and true to our actual personalities the escorts here are. I always make the attempt to keep things light-hearted and fun but apparently you need a hooker to keep it real.

 

JJ can make comments that make my face turn red. I'm an adult, I respond or I move on. He is entitled to his opinion as am I. JJ posts a lot. I'm an adult, so I put off reading them for a bit. I don't understand why this is even an issue. It is a forum, that is what it is for. JJ can be a little pushy. I'm an adult, I can be pussy back if I need to.

 

There have been studies done on people and their online interactions, they have seen people have a disconnect where they do not see the other people as a person. It changes a person's behavior.

Isn't it great that most of us are all grown up, and we can choose to either accept or delete information from our memory banks? If I choose to accept it, this is what will happen to it. I will find it helpful, and try to incorporate that into my life. It will comfort me in someway, and this will add to my climb up the hierarchy/pyramid of needs. If it a criticism, I can accept it, try to explain it, and go on. Since it matters very little how many times someone posts, I will proceed with information as I always have done. By doing so I, I strive to become a bit more tolerant/accepting as I age. And, I for one, try to practice ALL the time, one of my favorite words, civility. Gosh, I should have been a preacher!!! When our buddy jj joined Hooville, he began posting at a moderate pace for the first month or so, only 10.416 posts/day, typical for a newbie just feeling his way around here. There was a brief spurt of excitement on his part as he was transitioning from lord to baron, 15.625 posts/day. Since that time, jj has settled in at a modest rate of 13.75697211 posts/day. Based on the data, there has been no significant escalation in forum activity by jj. So, once again, I don't understand all the fuss.

jawja, that is Impressive, and thank you for all the empirical data. I dont understand either Why these people are so bothered by what and how much i post. Noone is forcing them to read it. They click on it of their FREE will. I also post with similar frequency over at another site, and from the day i joined there NOT a single member has EVER made issue of what and how much i post. And its always a harmonious enviornment. Guess thats what separates the MEN from the boys ?
