A hot topic right now as we seem to have several active cyber-bullies in our own midst in daddy's world. Anyway, this thread is not about them.

I was having a conversation with another gay man here in Houston sometime during the last month and the topic of bullying of gays in school came up in our conversation. His comment to me was something along the lines of: I don't know what the problem is with these gay students who complain about bullying in school and then commit suicide. They just need to toughen up and take it like I did.

Huh? What? Yes this came from the mouth of a gay man I was speaking with. My point is that gay men can be as ugly, judgmental, ignorant, and callous as anyone else. In the interest of full disclosure, the discussion in question took place in the local hangout (an Italian restaurant) of the Log Cabin Republican group. I am not a member....or even a republican....but I love the restaurant. I was so disturbed by the conversation that I have not been back since.

You're getting much better at storytelling. However, a good editor might suggest that you simply cut to the chase and say: "So, I was looking at myself in a mirror..."

Congrats. More nastiness and ugliness from Max. Your behaviour really is utterly transparent.

Before this turns into another uncivil war, let is be said that there is no monopoly on insensitivity and stupidity. Gay men can be as blind to the damage bullying causes as any another person. I might have suggested that when you were having that conversation that the idea of controlling bullying was to prevent people from getting as fucked in the head as your fellow discussant.

LOL EZE...that is the first problem. I actually have a friend who is a member. Man those boys are conservative. I can't even start a conversation with him without wanting to tear my hair out, and I don't even have any hair...PS. I heard from brother Glutes....ALL is well.;)

Here's some perspective from a Tea Party Republican: Log Cabin is a joke. They're about as conservative as Bill Maher and about as Republican as Nancy Pelosi. A few years back, Log Cabin's biggest donor, Tim Gill, pretty much took over Log Cabin and made it a leftist gay-rights organization. They were reduced to a non-entity within the GOP because they had gone totally left-wing, and they became irrelevant (if not despised) amongst the gays because they were Republicans. Add all sorts of infighting drama (a gay organization? drama?? NO!) and you're left with a dysfunctional group with zero political influence. Some gay conservatives have recently formed another group, GOProud, which has had its growing pains. At least GOProud seems to be sticking to its conservative principles. I doubt they'll ever grow to the point of political relevance, but I'd love for them to prove me wrong.

Wait, wasn't this thread about bullying?

Funny comments coming from our resident ogre EZE, who fashions himself pretty much a bully around THESE parts. But maybe in his mind he's just being "macho" which he gets from all those DL str8 escorts he frequents....:o Rule: dont call bad behavior on others when You yourself are guilty of it !

Yeah....those gay GOP guys are an odd bunch. They lead such a hypocritical life. Anyway, back to the bullying. I was simply floored by the guy's comment. I had spoken with him before and I knew what he was like. He actually starts out the evening pretty level-headed but as he drinks more, the ugliness appears. Kinda like Mel Gibson where his true colors shine once he is drunk.

My dilemma now is whether to return to the restaurant. Afterall, it is my favourite Italian place in Houston.
