Rentboy blocking problems?

I am having problems blocking ads on Rentboy. It started this morning. Basically blocking isn't working with new ads. Clicking block leads to something like a blank ad page and doesn't work.

 

Anyone else having these troubles?

I block like crazy. Today, it's behaving differently than usual. If I search in, say, Manhattan and select "unrated", it brings up the 14 guys whom I have yet to rate or block. If I block an ad from that page (the page with multiple listings), it works fine. If I click on the individual ad and try to block from there (the page that has the full ad for just an individual escort), I get a problem similar to what you mention. If they don't fix it by the end of the week, I'll bring it to their attention. Meanwhile, try blocking from the multiple-listing page and tell me how it goes.

I've never heard of this - you can block ads from showing up on Rentboy, say for guys that you're not interested in (or have seen and would not repeat)? Do you have to be logged in, or does Rentboy use cookies?

You create an account on rentboy. Totally free. It probably leaves a cookie in your browser (so you don't have to re-enter your username and [optionally] password each time). In a city like Manhattan with 400+ listings, it really helps not having to scroll through them each time. You can also give a star rating to those you do not block. The beauty of that is that you can then search just for those ads you've neither blocked nor rated and see just the new listings. I highly recommend creating an account.

I can't get RB to filter based on a range of weight or height. This used to work before they changed their web page design. I can filter on an age range. Is this broken for everyone or just me?

On a different but related subject, over the years I've noticed that Rentboy's search feature is not the best. I've often searched using a name or some other characteristic- to never have an escort show up in the search results. Then will see the ad when going through the city. Or when using the characteristics listed on the left hand of the page to limit a my viewing- escorts outside the characteristics of what I searched for will still show up. Then when I've clicked on and looked at the ad, when I go back to the general page with all the ads listed, my search parameters will be gone, and all the ads for a city will appear again.

It works fine for me, using the 'advanced search' feature and firefox browser. I used both the drop-down menus and the slider bar, both of which seem to function as advertised.

Another major gripe too about Rentboy is that you are limited to a city (or maybe a state) now in searches -- you used to do a search nationwide - but I do not find that function available anymore. This was especially helpful when seeking a very particular niche type escort that I would be willing to travel to or fly in... now no longer possible.

I find the "advanced search" feature to deliver spotty results. Sometimes it displays only the escorts who match the criteria and others it displays everything. Like Kevin, I use Firefox.

I do really appreciate when sites do that. For example, Yahoo mail offers (or offered, at least) an option to go back to "classic" yahoo mail if you don't like their new page design. And very often I don't; the new features don't interest me, often slow things down, and the features they removed are the ones I find most useful.

As of this morning, the blocking feature still behaves as you described. However, the ads I blocked yesterday are not displayed in search results today.

 

I agree with the poster who thinks Rentboy needs to simplify the site's design.

You aren't the only one. This is definitely not a new wish/complaint. Lately over the last several months when I look at Rentboy on my iPhone no matter what browser I use- Safari, Chrome, Opera, or a few others-Rentboy is so complex it causes the browser to shut down at some point while I'm looking at it. It used to do it only occasionally. Now it's at least 50% of the time. I know here is a mobile Rentboy site, but they don't really advertise it. And I've forgotten how to get to it. And I don't really like the way the mobile site functions in comparison to the real site if I have the choice. But the shut downs are really bugging me. I may need to go back to the mobile site. Does anyone know how to get to it?

IN addition to the blocking feature not working correctly, the "Add to Hotlist" feature is not functioning. Instead of the usual behavior (displays a confirmation message with the option to add a note) the page just sits there. Maybe someone accidentally poured some bubbly on a server.

They seem to have fixed it. Now blocking from the multiple listings page as well as an individual ad works for me.
