Ladies (you know who you are) and gentlemen, the Chcago Cubs are now 1 game away from the NL pennant and a World Series appearance.

As a life-long Cubs fan I'm of course prepared for them to totally fold. But they don't look like they will.

The screwy thing is that if they get to the World Series and win it, SOME Cubs fans will be disappointed because they never got that last-minute heart-crushing let-down. :+

This will be a year Cubs fans NEVER forget.

Your post just turned me into the biggest, most rabid Florida fan ever!

Go Marlins!!!

And it's good that you're not celebrating yet. Just remember 1984 - when the Cubs had a 2-0 lead over San Diego in the NLCS. The Cubs were only 1 game away from the World Series then, too. And they blew the lead - totally collapsed -- as San Diego won 3 games in a row, just like the Marlins can do.

Do you look back fondly on the memory of that series? Aren't you scared that history will be repeating itself?

What I said was:

The rest of your post isn't worth addressing.

Talk to the hand.

GO CUBBIES!!!! It really doesn't get better than this! Hey deej, do you want to see the Cubs wrap it up in Florida, or would you rather see them win it in front of the home crowd?

When the Cubs make the series, as imho, they will, do you think they'll beat the Yankees or Red Sox? IMO, they will beat whoever the AL sends, if the Yankees 4-2 and if the Red Sox 4-3.

What a great end to a great baseball season it would be to see a Cubs/Red Sox series. Any diehard baseball fan, such as me, could not lose in that scenario. :)

Remember that playoff series quite well thank you. I bet on the Padres against my boss who was from Chicago. I'll never forget him flaunting it in my face when it was 2-0 Cubs and also won't forget dancing in his face when the Padres won. Revenge was indeed sweet, and talk about a sore loser, as he paid me in a super sized bag of pennies - no class whatsoever. :(

I'm a die hard Mets fan. I've been once since 1964. I once had the pleasure of attending a Mets/Cubs game at Wrigley Field. I'm openly rooting for the Cubs. I normally don't acknowledge the existance of the other league }( ;), but this time I'm also openly rooting for the Red Sox. IMHO, it would be great for baseball fans everywhere, if we could see a Cubs/Red Sox series. :D (That would be especially sweet for fans in Boston and Chicago.) As a die hard National League fan, it would be awesome if the Cubs go all the way. :)

As sweet as a win at Wrigley would be, I just want it wrapped up and will take it wherever it comes. ;-) They'll bring home a World Series game.

It really won't make much difference, actually, except for the mob scene in Chicago. Last night, a friend who lives a few blocks from Wrigley and is completely oblivious to baseball called me five minutes after the game ended. He asked "The Cubs won, didn't they?"

Apparently, the city fairly erupted with fireworks, honking horns, people yelling, etc.

I'm not entirely sure the city can take a win IN the city.

I'm not actually a big baseball fan. But my Dad was a die-hard Cubs fan, and I got the gene.

Anyone who would wish Boston into a World Series after their behavior yesterday needs to have their heads examined. I personally would have ejected both Martinez and Ramirez. Send them on a boat back home and let them suck on coconuts for the rest of their pathetic lives. I am not a racist. I would lie down with Tino Martinez and not get up until several days had passed. I would bend Jorge Posada like a pretzel, then lick all the salt off. But those two idiots lower the standard of professional sports. Clemens and Martinez will meet again at The Stadium. It won't be pretty. AVENGE DON ZIMMER!!!!!!!

Daddy Sez:

Oh Gawd :o, may be we should change that "Other" forum from "Politics, Religion and War Issues" to "Politics, Religion, War Issues, and Sports" ;) It's bad enough in the Bar!

On the other hand, the pitcher has a bubble butt, and If we could get him to trim that thing on his chin, would be ab-ball-lously stunning. }(

He Deej,

I hope your Cubbies go all the way! I'm a lifelong Pirates fan, they've been lousy for the last 10 years, but I've also seen some very good baseball times in Pittsburgh. It's a lot of fun. Also, you can thank us for sending you Lofton, Ramirez and Simon. You can root LETS GO CUBS or LETS GO BUCS!!lol Good luck and enjoy!!

LOL!

Top8, honey, we definitely thank Pittsburgh for the mid-season trades we've done with the Pirates.

Aramis Rodriguez' grand slam home run in the 1st inning of game 4 definitely set a tone. (For a rout!) (And he's cute too!) Simon's homer drew some blood, and I can't imagine the team without Kenny Lofton.

In a stadium like Miami's Pro Player, the fans are fairly well removed from the field. At Wrigley, they're IN YO FACE.

They're back at Wrigley tomorrow and I'm betting the fans are READY. }(

With Mark Prior on the mound for game 6, I doubt we'll need game 7. But if we do, it's Kerry Wood on the mound ... with those fans at Wrigley. That's gonna be the loudest place on the planet for a time. Cubs fans have waited since 1945 for this.

I've waited a long time too - almost a week since you revealed that you were a rabid Cubs fan - to watch them collapse.

The more painful and humiliating the crash, the better.

Go Marlins!!

IMO, neither one or both together can be 100% culpable for the loss. Why didn't the Cubs pitching shut the Marlins hitters down after these gaffes?

All part of the game. What now? Security already had to escort the fan out of the stadium for his own protection. So Alex Gonzalez made an error (never happens in a baseball game does it?).

It was a foul ball in the stands, and it is perfectly reasonable for a fan to try to catch the ball in that situtation. But, I'm sure people will use that as an excuse to demand the poor guy's head just as they did in a similar incident in the Yankees/Orioles playoff game a few years ago (at least fan interference as the kid caught the ball in the field of play). I know all the cry baby Orioles fans demand his head to this day.

And just as the cry baby Red Sox fans made Buckner's life hell and drove him out of town for his error in game 7 of the World Series, the Cub fans, if the Cubs lose, will probably do the same to Gonzales.

If this turns out to be the situation, if the Cubs lose, then I agree that the fans deserve to lose. After all, the World Series is considered the Classic Showcase of baseball, and only those teams who have classy fans truly deserve to be there and to win. No wonder the Yankees are always winning the series.

I see that y'all are coming to your senses. Thanks for the compliment about the Yankees and their classy fans. From what we have seen so far, no other eligible team is going to stop us. Today, the Red Sox and their vile players come to the stadium. It will be the last time we have to look at their sorry asses. Number 27 is closer than ever.:D ;) ;-) :p
