>And if the moderators edit or delete attacks, I am behind

>them.

Nice sentiment, but what if a moderator launches personal attacks, and then deletes or edits the responses in kind as one foreign-based moderator regularly does here? The injunction about living in glass houses and throwing stones would seem to apply here in 2004 too, it seems to me.

I wonder who this NEW poster is. It won't take long to figure that out

When in doubt I whip it out:+

Actually, I think I know who you're thinking that is, and I'm also pretty sure you're wrong for more than one reason.

At any rate, while I do think the job of moderators is important, I also think moderators are indeed fallible, and I do feel some unfair treatment DOES indeed happen on these boards, at least from what I've seen (and I acknowledge I haven't been here all that long).

Frankly, my wish for 2004 is that everybody would simply have a clean slate (including unbanning or unblocking those who can't post currently and giving them each another chance) and just try to be civil to each other here. Maybe that sounds sappy, but I personally am for a fresh start.

Does that include the hostile derograory vile disgusting hateful namecaling of political figures and others in addition to some members on this BBS?

Nothing else as uncivil and lower then the low road seems to have taken on a herd characteristic as some posters, who can not complete a sentence without repeating the same projections of their own misguided feelings.

If it were my board and I wanted to do, what you would you see it become, that is were I would start to clean up.

In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

There are other forums? On the internet? Hooville is the only forum for me. If this kind of thing goes on in other forums, well , the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

As chairman of the prozac set, I fully concur with civility. State your case and leave the invective out.

Hope everyone is blessed this year with good health and great personal growth. Tons of money wouldn't hurt either.

Happy New (Hoo) Year!

;)

Case in point, check out the fingerprinting thread in the South America lounge. The moderator responds to a neutral post with religious and political invective. As soon as there is a response in kind to said religious and political invextive, the moderator deletes the response but not the inititial neutral post or the moderator's religious and political invective. It is going to be very hard to get off to a good start for the new year if that pattern persists.

According to your newly annoucned (or re-iterated) standards, the post from BigGuy is exactly the type the ought to be deleted.

But it won't be.

Wrong again.

Numerous people in this thread - including people who agree on absoultely nothing else - have pointed out what the poisonous, rotten fruit of your censorship calls will be. Enjoy it.

"fair and unbiased" - just like Fox News!? Now there is a role model.

;-)

VDN

If people just stuck to content and DON'T talk about people's brain capacity, mothers, breeding (or lack there of) and other 4th grade level insults then Hooville will be a better place. This is the best forum/message center I have seen on the Internet. HooBoy, may your wish come true.

PEACE AND CHICKEN GREASE!

I am not sure why the minority of people crying here are doing so. Can anyone else remember when all posts were retr-omoderated? Does anybody eslse remember when HB pulled the plug on the Message Center for a few days?

It is unfair to say that HB hasn't listened to his customers (us). He has made adjustments within the message center and I feel that the moderators (who in the past were abusive) now seem to have more of a balance. Are they perfect, no - but they sure are doing better than before. In fact some posts have made it through and stayed that I personally had been turned off by as they were continous vicious attacks.

Anyway guys it is simple we can play by the rules and try to have fun or we can move on. Last I checked it wasn't mandatory to participate here.

>Numerous? Three have posted their concerns.

This topic has come up "NUMEROUS" times and many many more than 3 have expressed concern on censorship over and over, so it is of little wonder that there isn't yet again a major out pouring of concern.

It's funny how some here decry the actions of AOL for filtering email, yet see no parallel to deleting posts that seem to offend the sensibilities of some.

There are obvious exceptions, such as racial, ethnic or religious slurs, child porn and the like, but for the most part, angry, sarcastic, caustic and name calling etc should not be on the "filtered" list.

I have never understood who "we" are trying to protect with censorship here. The beauty of this beast we call the MC, is that we can by pass a post that we don't like and go on to something more gentle and lady like. I mean, my god, we don't even have to go there at all--just check out the reviews and go home.

No one is forcing anyone else to read that which offends their sensibilities. And by offensive, I'm not talking about racial and religious slurs or the like--I have seen that here only once or twice and also feel it has no place.

In my opinion, this sought after gentler-kinder world here will DECREASE the readership and thus the value of the site and in fact be the death knell of this site. It is the more dogmatic, controversial posts with insults and arrows slinging that get the most readers and viewers--is that PURE ACCIDENT or is there a reason? (RHETORICAL) :+ This is particularly true as many other sites now have their own review sections--true not as good or developed, but still, they're there, yet have nothing like the MC

Civility is something that is nice to talk about and in a situation where you are forced to deal with a group of people on a regular basis, as in your workplace, it should be encouraged by all and maybe required--but that is not the case here.

NO one forces anyone to read or respond to any post--those that respond hold themselves open for rebuttle criticism and if their post is particularly STUPID, then all the more slings and arrows--definitely not a game for the thin skinned, but all should be welcome to throw in their 2 cents and be prepared for replies, misstatements, misquotes, yells and names and even some preaching :+

So let's not so readily delegate the decision as to what we can and can't read or say. }(

So as the overused saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

Perhaps, Hooboy, as a gesture of goodwill for the New Year, and to promote your own New Year's wish, you will restore the picture-posting feature that so many of us enjoy. Without it, those nasty posts will seem even stinkier, so how about brightening things up a bit?

I so agree with that AOL filtering comparison. The screeching by many about that (which of course is a valid and odious concern) is accepted and even encouraged, but Godfabid someone should call someone a sonofabitch. The place is rife with sonsofbitches, in fact, more than any other forum I've experienced. I dare say, some posters exist only for the purpose of insulting and baiting others. It's obvious and unfortunate that their entire existences, at least here, revolve around finding the flaw or grammatical lapse or unpopular viewpoint so they can feel better about themselves. I hate when I take the bait, but fall for it, on occasion, I do. So fucking sue me!x(
