Don't joke about business. What do yinz think of this text exchange bet. an escort and a client?

This question is for both, escorts and clients on here.

In early December of last year, a local escort I consider to my friend, traveled to a city in the Midwest. A gentleman made plans to pick him up at the airport, stop by a restaurant, have lunch and go to his house for an hour of fun, later he would drop him at his hotel. Unfortunately plans fell through, the day before the escort's arrival, the client was informed he'd be going for work to San Francisco for a whole week and he wouldn't be in town during the whole 6 days stay of the escort. He texted the escort and said, he would see him on his next trip to town.

The escort I'm talking about only goes to that city twice per year... he doesn't live nearby.

The escort just made plans to go to the same city in early June and texted the guy who cancelled on him to let him know in advance he'd be in town.

The following exchange of texts messages happened:

ESCORT: "Hi, we made plans to meet in Dec. for 1 hour, you said you'd pick me up at XXX (code or airport) have fun and go to lunch but you had to cancel. I'm not sure if you saved my number, my name is XXX. Will you be in town during my trip".

CLIENT: Great, I look forward to meeting you. I'll pick you up from the airport and take you out to lunch, boss.

ESCORT: Good, make sure your company doesn't send you away again. I only go to XXX (name of city) twice per year.

CLIENT: Actually, I'll be out of town during your trip again.

ESCORT: I though you just told me you'd be in town.

CLIENT: It was a joke, that's why I said the word "boss", it's like saying LOL. You didn't get my sarcasm, didn't you? Maybe you need to learn proper English.

ESCORT: Huh?

5 mins later

CLIENT: "April fools' day".

ESCORT: Damn... you got me, I look forward to meeting you.

10 mins later

CLIENT: No actually, I won't be in town, I'll be in Memphis again for the whole week.

ESCORT: Are you kidding me?

CLIENT: No, I'm not. let me know next time you're in town... bye....

I've had so many misunderstandings by relying on texting... Both of them come across as terse and a little angry and I'll bet that wasn't the case at all (at least at first).

The escort sounds like he was coming into it with a beef and the client sounds like a douche.

I don't think this is a function of the medium used to communicate. It seems to be a function of one participant (in this case, the client) being unclear in his communication. The right response was "I'm sorry, I can't see you because I will be out of town." Had they been talking by phone I suspect the same interaction would have occurred.

Was the escort out any money, say for an airline ticket already purchased? That would make it worse, but it's bad enough as it is. If I were the escort, I would erase this guy from my client list.

No, sometimes he's invited to travel to other cities for overnights or days, and sometimes he travels on his own. In this 2 cases, he simply goes to that city twice per year.

The client who cancelled on him in December, simply emailed him about his services, made plans and cancel the day before his arrival.

These are indeed the kind of text exchanges that make me go...

Yep! Nothing is better than a couple of mins talk to make up your mind and get a feeling...

Imaging dealing with 50 y/o teenagers like him over and over again every week... Unfortunately now even straight guys behave like that when it comes to sex/date with women, I guess 50 is the new 30 now a days.

Innocuous...

Yes, nobody was harmed... but c'mon don't fuck with other guys when it's business.

Besides:

CLIENT: "It was a joke, that's why I said the word "boss", it's like saying LOL. You didn't get my sarcasm, didn't you? Maybe you need to learn proper English"

Isn't that a insult or at least politically correct.

The client is a teenager on a 50 y/0 body, not a good combination.

I wonder if he was out of town in December or it was just an excuse to feel good about himself because of canceling a "date" with an escort.

Damn, I shouldn't have said that after your "innocuous" comment, now you're gonna milk it and feel good about it for a long time.

let's just say dealing with 50 y/o teenager like that flaky client every single day it's a pain in the butt. I guess the escort has the stomach to deal with clients like that in person (fucking them) but by email/text must be a pain in the butt he can't stand/tolerate.

Reads like a post purposefully meant to inflame escort client relationships.

As clients and as escorts we are either going to chose to be stand up guys, show common courtesy, professionalism, treat each other with mutual respect, or we aren't. Trying to blame one side or the other side or shift attention from this delicate balance doesn't change this.

Exactly, let's be more polite, no time for games.

I don't believe I've ever seen the word "Boss" used as an alternative to LOL before. I've always associated it as an alternative to man, bro, guy, etc.

In either case, if someone did that to me they would move quickly down the ladder. I already have a limited amount of time when it comes to trying to schedule clients during trips, I don't want to waste it even further by entertaining jokes.

I'm just going to recruit AIM:SmarterChild to do all my bookings from now on.

Exactly, that's what I told him, remove him from your email/text list and move on, the guy's a teenager in a 50 y/o body.

Bottom line, don't attempt humor via sarcasm in a text message. The receiver cannot see your face, hear your tone of voice or anything else to communicate that you're trying to be funny. This is especially true if you don't know the other person THAT well. I know this from personal experience.

Using the word "boss" to mean "LOL" is hardly proper English. I'm with Glennnn, erase him from the client list.

This "Client" sounds like a complete Douche. There's no amount of money I would put up with the Agony of actually Dealing with him In person.

Long story short Until You have Actually MET a Client/Escort It really is heard to get a read on them through a Text/Email etc.

Still...I wouldnt bother with this "Client"

Kudos to the Escort for staying Professional.

Exactly. Consider the medium. There's no way two people who have never met, let alone developed a relationship, can read between the lines in a text message. The client's responsibility is clear communication and an apology for messing up the escort's life that day.

I think the escort rehashing the past encounter may have been off putting. A simple: Hi this is Bob, we had some tentative plans fall through last time I was in town and you asked me to contact you when I would be back. Well I will be there on (date) if you are interested.

Rehashing the part about not being picked up at the airport and lunch makes it seem to me that the escort is expecting that as the standard.

After the less detailed note, the ball is now in the client's court and the escort has done more than make good on the promise to contact next time through.

I'm sure that happens a lot to him and others, the first clients picks them up at the airport.

in this case at least that was just reminded so the client would recognizing the escort and the previous situation.
