I am reminded of a "bit" by comedian George Carlin, where he talked about the 7 dirty words not allowed on television. For anyoneone not familar with the bit, I believe the 7 were:

1. The "S" word - four letters.

2. A four-letter word for urination.

3. M-F (think mo-fo)

4. C-S (think oral sex)

5. Son-of-a-B.

6. Tits.

By my count, that is only six, but it was a long time ago.

Anyway, the point of this is I recently made a post, and dared to use the "w" word, 5 letters, to describe a character in a movie, who was a prostitute and/or promiscuious (hey I can't spell). Much to my surprise, when I viewed my post, the politically incorrect "w" word had been replaced with innocent "#" signs.

I am personnaly amused that on a web site where I can freely discuss the joys of a big cock in my ass, that I cannot use the "w" word!!! Based on some of the other posts, perhaps soon I won't be able to say "twink" either.

Love, Kisses, and NEVER to be taken too seriously,

You mean the word ####?

Son of a gun! When I previewed this message it got masked.

Looks like Daddy installed an update that has an unplanned additional feature.

Lord knows that word has showed up often enough in the past, and will again in the future.

What's masked next, slut?

It appears that there are a variety of words that are now masked... it's easy to test in preview mode. Just use your imagination.

I'd strongly suggest turning this feature off. Those who choose to use such words in a forum clearly intended for an adult audience shouldn't find their words censored by the software.

Fuck!

Hmmm ... it lets that through.

Cunt!

Hmmm......

We'll get to the bottom (ahem!) of this. You'se guys should be able to get as vulgar as you want, while being tasteful and fabulously attired, of course.

>Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker, and Tits

This . . . including the dreaded C-word .. . . . in a BARRY post . . . that settles it . . . the apocolypse is DEFINITELY upon us.

You're absolutely right and I apologize. I meant to include the quotes and credit George Carlin. I would never use such language.

Apocolyptically yours, (sorry FFF)

I NEVER say Cunt or Tits during Thanksgiving dinner.

If we occasionally use these words in daily conversation - and I know I do - then what is wrong with using them on a message center that is intended for adult use only?

I hate when people use the word fuckin as an adjective before every noun they utter, but when used creativly, it can be very effective.

Is the moral majority trying to take control here too?

From an email I got a few minutes ago, it appears management has decided you can't use certain words here. (And no, we haven't been given a list of disapproved words. We know slut still works tho! ;-))

That is management's decision. I don't happen to agree with it. But it isn't my decision.

Hooboy doesn't want you using the word #### so therefore you can't use it.

Write to the boss ([email protected]) if you disagree with the decision as much as I do.

Partially because of a bug in the software. You have to have one word in the list or all words become cuss words. On another system I set it to "deoxyribonucleicacid" which actually got used once, to everybodies amusement.

The list has been there for almost from the start. One word, I agree is simply not acceptable here on the board (Hint: It begins with n). The rest are a few variations on another pejorative.

For those that wonder, here's the list: ####, ####, ####, ####, ####, ####, #### :+

Well, if it ends in "-er," I agree, but if it ends in "-a," it's a word that, unfortunately, no longer has any meaning.

>wanted to see if the zero trick worked

You might have noticed it worked for me, 12 hours earlier.

If you ever need to quote Paul Simon on the vvhores of 7th Avenue, you could always use the double-V trick also.

I did notice it worked for you. However, I wanted to see if John Ashcroft got to the system before I did and made sure the trick could no longer be performed.

Thank you for arming me with another way to describe so many of my friends and family members. #### is cool! #### is better.

Who're the censors?

When I suggested that it might not contribute to furthering the purposes of the message centers, to have one poster calling another a cocksucker, deej wrote back:

>>If you can tell me you've never sucked cock, I might take this complaint seriously. Welcome aboard. You've been flamed. You're a member of the tribe now.<<

Which at least gave me some parameters, as to what I could get away with myself. It's just too bad I have to be careful quoting from Joseph Conrad novels.

Take out the "and" and you'll have it exactly... :-)

I haven't heard that routine in years but I remember it well...I love the part where he just keeps saying "cocksuckermotherfuckertits...cocksuckermotherfuckertits...it rolls off the tongue..." :-)

Also the bit where he mentions the English professor (I think) who suggested that "motherfucker" should be taken off the list because it's tecnically a derivative of "fuck"...:)
