You have to cancel, no question.

Early this year, I had a 3-day out-of-town trip scheduled to spend time with an escort. About a month before my scheduled trip, I came down with a bad cold that I couldn't shake. A week before the trip, I realized that there was a good possibility that I would still have the cold when I was supposed to leave. I hated to cancel, but I realized that I just couldn't expose this guy to this horrible cold and risk costing him a month's downtime. I emailed him and cancelled. He wasn't happy. I don't think he realizes what a bullet he dodged, because I wasn't any better on the day of our anticipated date.

Alas, i understand how that is. I had a lung ripping cough that would NOT go away.. DRs said everything is fine, lungs are clear, etc etc.. but Kurtis was in town, i couldnt hire him because i didnt want his dick to explode if i coughed while sucking it.. or heavens cough like my lungs want to fly across the room while bent over... im not sure but i think the coughing might squeeze something way to tight:P and well.. its not very attractive to sound like you have tuberculosis :p

I use an albuterol inhaler. Sometimes it helps to break up chest congestion and other times not. If you have one of those dry, hacking coughs, albuterol isn't much good.

Yep, I exprience the same thing. Sometimes, Claritin D (or original Sudaphed) works, too.

Abreva only decreases the duration of symptoms by about 18 hours. I would say it's a waste of time and money.

Wow, this surprises me. I don't doubt you or the article, but I find that if I start using Abreva as soon as I feel the fever blister coming on, it keeps it from turning into an actual sore. It's also very soothing.

Unfortunately, I get them rather randomly, or for reasons I can't understand, and have had to cancel appointments twice because of them. With someone you know it is no big deal because he knows you're looking out for him. Someone you've never met might think you are a flake, but it is still the right thing to do.

I highly recommend going online and finding acyclovir cream or ointment. You can order it from Canadian pharmacies. It's not gonna help you now, but it's good to have on hand. I get the occasional cold-sore and it SUCKS cause I have to cancel or rearrange my appointments, can cost me alot of money. Last time I was in Puerto Vallarta I found the acyclovir ointment for $4/tube so I stocked up. You can get it with a prescription in the states but there is no generic and the name brand stuff costs something like $500 for a tiny tube, BULLSHIT!

Just a general complaint: I had a hip replacement last July (2015). I then tried to schedule a knee replacement. I think I scheduled an evaluation in September, and had an appointment in December, which I cancelled because I had a bad cold. Next appointment: Mid january.

Mid January: Surgery scheduled for late May.

Early May: Preoperative Screening, May4.

May 5: Surgery postponed for three months due to steroid injection into said knee on April 29.

Surgery now scheduled for August 9th.

And there's a certain escort I really, really want to see again SOON!

If you get recurrent cold sores, I would suggest taking daily oral acyclovir (taken 400 mg twice a day), or valacyclovir, which is essentially a once-a-day form of acyclovir (usually 500 mg daily for prevention, although you could take 1 g daily). Both are generic and I assume can be gotten OTC in Mexico. Famciclovir is another once a day option. Prevention is better than cure. Even for treatment, oral meds work better than topicals.

To the more medically inclined: What's the prevalence of Herpes Simplex 1 in the upper airway and upper GI track? I've had canker sores, but I've never had a cold sore, which makes me think I'm HS1 (-).

I'm too lazy to look this up.

Most adults have been exposed to HSV-1 at some point. You could get a blood test (HSV-1 IgG) to determine if you've ever been exposed. I got cold sores once when I was 18, and have never had them again. Just because you don't get recurrences doesn't mean you haven't been exposed. I've never heard of HSV-1 in the trachea. It does affect the esophagus in rare occasions, which is extraordinarily painful. Thank goodness it's quite rare.

According to this website, over 2/3 of US adults have been exposed to HSV-1. Most other countries have higher rates of seroprevalence.

It could be that i'm seropositive. I was tested for Mumps (like a TB test; injection into the skin), which I'd never had (according to my mother), and had one of the most POSITIVE responses they'd ever seen.
