I don't expect anyone to agree with me... so I'll brace myself for the onslaught of replies. :)

It's been a few years since my last trip over the border. It used to be a regular thing for me, but a few years ago, Montreal just started to lose its luster. The dancer turnover was gruelingly slow. Curtains disappeared at Campus and Taboo. The Village started to resemble a ghost town on certain blocks. I just found myself heading to Ft Lauderdale since it was much less effort, even though Boardwalk and LeBoy have turned into a disappointment.

All that said, I had a blast this weekend in large part due to the company. But nonetheless, after reading so many Debbie Downer reviews of how the scene is dead in Montreal, I managed to enjoy myself immensely. And there was an unlikely winner for my favorite spot. And here's where I'm going to piss you all off... Lux.

LUX?

Yes, Lux. Lux is always the wildcard when I visit. When I've dropped in on some trips, it's been empty. At its best, it was just a haven for the dancers who were fired or couldn't get work at the other clubs. Dancers with body odor were the norm. And Nancy Reagan's "Just say no to drugs" campaign could have set up shop and flourished.

To be honest, not much has changed. There were definitely shady characters, both on the stage and in the customer seats. But Lux seems to always have at least 2 or 3 dancers that'll do it for me. I like twinks and muscle twinks. Once they get to Stock size, I'm out. There was one dancer who had no business being on stage... old, creepy looking, and drugged out since the LSD era. But otherwise, most dancers were in the 20-25 range. There was a Britney worshipping twink, a straight boy with MMA skills who looked like David Archuleta with a cute smile but with straight boy swagger, and a scrawny 110 pound confused looking straight'ish guy who had no flirt game whatsoever, but was somehow attractive to at least me. There were usually about 8-10 dancers on Friday and Saturday night. Sunday was much quieter - as it was in all the clubs, except may be Taboo.

The 2 big reasons why Lux was the winner for me may not matter much to you:

1) Privacy.

Taboo and Campus still won't put curtains up in the booths. I don't know why. I don't care. But it'll always be the reason I won't do a private dance at either club. I don't want to be distracted by seeing old men in booths across from me. And I certainly don't want them watching me. Stock has privacy with curtains - but as I mentioned, once you cross the Zac Efron muscle threshold, I'm not in to you. (I like Zac in The Paperboy not the Baywatch roid-looking hairy Zac.) I will say though that Stock by far has the highest quality setting and best looking dancers (to most, just not me).

2) Comfort.

The comfy lounge style chairs right behind the stage... that's my favorite real estate in all of Montreal. You can relax in a cushy VIP luxury and see everything going on in the entire club and you can count the pores on the skin of the dancers when they're on stage. I hate the fast food style seats you get sore in at Campus, Stock and (most of) Taboo. Taboo does have some comfortable seating but it's too far from the action.

CAMPUS

We had fun at all the clubs. Campus was great for pre-gaming. There were some standouts like Kyle, a tall beautiful blond with a perfect swimmer's build... just enough muscle but not too much. About 6'4 and I'd guess 170-180 pounds. There was something for everyone at Stock - twinks to muscleheads. Friday and Saturday got busy. But Sunday, even at 8PM, was a ghost town. I'm sure it picked up later for Ladies Night. When nothing is going on on stage, it's brutal in there. So depressing. At least show porn on the main screen or something. Anything. Play Golden Girls clips. I don't care. Anything is better than a half-ass light show with lame 1994 PowerPoint slides.

STOCK

Listen. I'm not a Stock guy. But it's the best strip club in Montreal. I'll admit it. Clean. Handsome dancers with perfect bodies. Attentive friendly bartenders. But the place is as erotic to me as a hospital. It's so clinical and sterile that I just get bored. Obviously a big part of it is I'm not into gym rats. But usually Stock has a few leaner muscle guys who aren't too far past college age for me enjoy. But not this trip. It was an endless barrage of straight expressionless drones.

TABOO

Best lineup of twinks in the Village, hands down. Some real winners. A wide range too. My favorites were a tall, lanky college freshman type with a baseball cap on backwards... about 6'3 and 150 pounds. Little bit of ink probably to not look to boy'ish to girls he's trying to impress. There was a stunning short muscly blond boy. I believe his name was Jeffrey. Calling him chiseled and defined don't do him justice. More muscle than I like but just so incredibly designed by nature, diet and gym-time, you couldn't help but stare. Unfortunately, he knows how good looking he is so I chose not to partake - especially since there's no privacy in the back room. I hinted that I'd be down for an off-site session, but either he didn't understand or wasn't interested. Then there was one dancer who would have never stood out had I not seen him perform. Typical twink body. Typical face. Typical everything. But holy shit he was so seductive with his swagger and smooth dancing (to James friggin' Brown no less!) that he became a top 3 pick in the place... even though his dental situation was Sally Struthers TV ad worthy. Poor kid used every dime he made to buy crappy chips and snacks at the bar.

Anyway, there's my round up. I'm glad I let enough time pass. I was burned out on Montreal. Restaurants were great. The Village being closed down except to foot traffic was fun, especially at night. The streets were packed. But still there were so many vacant closed down restaurants and shops. It was a little depressing in the daytime. Well worth a visit. Not often, but annually for sure.

Cool. Look forward to hearing your stories! I found a great place to stay near the village. It's close to Lux and Taboo and about a 10 minute walk to Campus. Private message me if you'd like the info.

You've lit my fire for Montreal once again.

It's happened several times in the past but the fire never

burned long or hot enough for me to actually book the trip.

Fire up the jet....I'm in the mood for French Canadian!

Too bad. Derek was/is superb.

He looks it. Not really my type, but yeah those guys on that splash page look far more like Stock material than Lux. Lux had lean college age guys mostly. Guys who look like that splash page photo were nowhere to be found at Lux at least this trip.

Ghost town is the word I used in my last review as well (in fact, the last several reviews).

Unless you have good company/friends, or meet that one dancer that makes your trip special and worthwhile, the last few trips to Montreal have been total busts for me for the same reasons everyone has mentioned.

Plus, I don't like having to fend-off aggressive dancers who don't get the message. Just because I walk into a strip club doesn't mean I'm attracted to you, or that I want to be groped or have a staring contest of intense eye contact.

Curtains or not, the quality of twinks has really diminished over the last decade. Especially if you're primarily into young, skinny, blonde-haired, blue-eyed all-American boy-toy twink-types that used to be so prevalent.

Yeah yeah yeah, I get it.... no clubs are as good as they were 10 years ago. Pretty much same can be said about my other 2 favorite cities... Ft Laud and Prague.

The internet has changed the game. If I'm a hot young dude and my options are A) post an ad online and wait for $200-300 offers to roll in and schedule meet ups that are convenient for me or B) hang out at smoky bars while old men grope me while I have to use the same old lines "where ya from" "how long are you in town" "where are you staying" in hopes they'll at least tip me $5 or $10, I think the option for the cream of the crop-type guys is pretty obvious. That said, there were plenty of B level guys and 2 or 3 A's this trip. But from now on, thanks to the internet, it's going to be rare to see the best of the best hanging around in clubs when they can just post online. Technology has an impact. Read a good phone book lately?

Derek is the second guy that appears in the splash page. He's the one in yellow trunks.

Speaking of websites, someone just posted about an updated Campus site... and there's a pic of the guy Kyle I mentioned! Not the best shot of him, but you get the idea of my type! Tall, blond, lean and a little bit of muscle but not too much!

Thanks Jake for such a comprehensive review. We appreciate the time it took to write this up. We don't apparently have the same type of guy..lol, but I agree with what you posted. I just got back this morning, and had one of the best times I've ever had in Montreal.

Campus for me was amazing this trip. A couple of standouts for me was Chase. He's beefed up nicely and was just lots of fun to hang out with, and very interactive with the private dances. Nick...Simply a body of pure perfection. Cut, muscled and the best set of six packs I've ever seen on a man, and did a private dance that apparently caused a bit of a stir. (sigh)... but top of my list was Max, who has won several body building contests in Canada. He was a mass of solid muscle, and a bit intimidating at first, until a customer told me that he knew Max personally and that he was really a genuinely nice guy...Long story short, home run! He came as advertised, and he gave the best intimate private dances I have ever had in my life. He alone would have been worth the trip.

Lastly...friends talked me into venturing into Taboo one night. OK it was the last day and I decided to go just for 'shits and giggles.' I don't do twinks...ever. Just not my thing. I don't find much attractive about a guy that looks like he could use a good steak dinner with a side of fries. ;) But it was one of the best times I've had in a strip club in many moons. Yes my twink loving friends were hilarious and provided a nice backdrop, but to be fair, there must have been at least 6 dancers that were just stunning, I mean really stunning boys. I have to admit, some of these guys I was really taken with. It was late and I managed a few private dances, but mostly just enjoyed their company.

My take on the Village is a little different. Yes business isn't as vibrant as it once was, but Canada, like many countries is struggling with a slowing economy and high unemployment. Developers don't like uncertainty, so for now the Village seems to be in a time warp. There are still signs of the glory days, but no one seems willing to gamble on her future yet. I remembering coming to FTL during the recession and saw towering beach front hotels that were sitting empty. Now much of that has changed. The economy is booming, and we enjoy an unusually low unemployment rate, so I still see a future for the Village with possibly more mixed use complexes. Retail on the bottom and condos on top. Yes the old Le Club Sandwhich, which in it's heyday, was a destination at almost any hour, is now a depressing, rotting, boarded up mess. Like an aging beauty queen that time left behind, but...she still sits on prime real estate. I've been enjoying St Catharine's for decades now, and I would say that this trip was among one of best I've ever had, but then again, I'm more of "the glass is half full" kinda guy.

Lastly...Oh yeah, the boys at Stock were amazing also, but a heartfelt shout out to Stephan, the bartender. :D

DISCLAIMER: As with all things, Your mileage may vary...;)

Montreal is where I hired my first honest to goodness escort. I attribute it in no small part to the dancers at Campus and Stock Bar...

I tend to get all reminiscent when I visit too... during the (LONG) downtime between dancers at Campus, I'd think back to previous visits... guys I couldn't wait to see after that steep climb up the steps. And walking through the Village I spotted a couple former dancers walking down St. Catherine. When I first went to Montreal almost 10 years ago, all I heard about is how it was better 10 years before that. And it's an ongoing line. Like I said, the internet has changed the way we look up phone numbers, the way we shop, the way we pay bills, how we drive from one point to another... and it's having an impact on the strip club scene. Fortunately the social aspect I think will always keep them in business. But will it ever be like the days when we all first went? Probably not. Still fun to enjoy it for what it is.

Did you make it to Lux? Don't remember seeing many big muscle dudes, so I'd imagine if you did, your time there was short.

Raising a half full glass to toast yours. Great review. Even if your taste in guys isn't as good as mine. ;)

Friends of mine did go into Lux several times, with me in tow of course. :p I'm not one to pass up a good time, regardless of who's dancing on the stage, and I'm an old Hollywood boy from back in the day, so I get what Lux is all about. It's very similar to the old Spotlight Lounge on Selma and Cahuenga. An interesting mix of street boys. There seemed to be something for every type of twink lover. I did spend sometime with a cute muscle twink that I would have taken back to the states with me, had that been an option. Genuinely nice kid...and someone that I won't soon forget.

I get that everyone has different taste, but my take on that is, when you travel to a place like Montreal, or any place for that matter, you should go with an open mind, and just enjoy the boys for who they are. Again, thanks for the comprehensive review.

Street boys is the perfect way to describe 'em. It's not for everyone for sure. I never got to see Spotlight, but it reminded me a lot of Johnny's. It was wild, unpredictable, a little seedy (ok a lot seedy), raw and a litttle nasty (in a good way).

Too bad. Derek was/is superb.

True. Great sexy moves on the dance pole. He gives a very erotic dance and that ass of his. Yummm. I was able to enjoy him multiple times in the private lap dance room upstairs. He does everything! Managed to convince him to come back to the hotel with me for a hefty price!
